Brief report on the grant of the Russian Humanitarian Foundation "The problem of choosing a profession and attitudes towards education among young people (on the example of the Republic of Tatarstan)"

The team analyzed the empirical material on the motivations of high school students when choosing a profession. The research was carried out by the method of questioning. The collection of material was carried out in rural schools of five municipal districts and urban schools in four cities of the Republic of Tatarstan. The original questionnaire of 34 questions revealing personal information about high school students, their families, preferences, future profession and professional intentions. The survey involved 1080 students, aged 16 to 18 years, boys - 41%, girls - 59%. From rural schools - 47%, of which 37% are men, 63% are women, from urban schools they accounted for 53%, of which 45% were men, 55% were women.

Results. The quantitative composition of the family was studied: most families consist of 4 people. The first child in the family is 45%/47% (village/city, respectively) of the respondents, the second - 39%/29%, the third - 12%/16%, the fourth - 4%/6%, the fifth or more - 0.

As part of the project, an analysis was made of the impact of social, economic factors and personal guidelines for choosing a profession. It was found that material motives, a personal reference point, and a utilitarian aspect are decisive in choosing a profession. The results show that the young people surveyed are striving for a profession that would provide them with a stable future and would be interesting to them, regardless of whether it is prestigious or not. On the basis of quantitative data, a scale of intensity (index) of their influence at the stage of choosing a profession among high school students is proposed. In general, the majority of schoolchildren (51% / 37%) do not see obstacles to getting an education, some students (23% / 27%) noted “lack of school knowledge” as a barrier. 19% of respondents living in rural areas named “living in another city” as one of the significant barriers. Some respondents (14%/7%) are afraid of the language barrier. The self-assessment of individual and personal qualities by high school students when choosing a profession was also analyzed.

The issue of choosing an educational institution was investigated. 17% of high school students choose primary and secondary vocational education, 83% - higher education. It can be assumed that this occurs under the influence current trend pursuit of higher education.

We have identified factors that high school students evaluate as significant in their lives and determined the place of professional activity among them. A scale of significance of various factors and an index of its manifestation (PI, the maximum value of PI is 100) have been built. professional activity high school students put in 4th place with IP 18/21 (village / city, respectively). The first place is occupied by "life success" (IP 34/31). Moreover, “life success”, according to both rural and urban schoolchildren, depends primarily on purposefulness (IP 61/42), then on the availability higher education(IP 30/33). In second place in terms of priority of the scale of significance of factors in life is high paying job(IP 27/25), in third place - material security (23/22). Next in descending order of importance are prestige (IP 21/22) and status (20/18). "Independence of decision-making" takes the last place in priority with IP 38/35.

Awareness and sources of information about the future profession. Information about the requirements for the profession is known to 36%/33% of students. “I will find out when I go to study,” 14%/14% answered. Majority - 42%/43% know General requirements to the chosen profession.

65%/59% of students get information about their chosen profession from the Internet, 13%/18% from parents, 7%/10% from representatives educational institutions, 6% / 7% from representatives of the chosen profession, 4% / 2% from TV shows, 4% / 1% in career guidance lessons
