Such a direction in the educational program of universities as business informatics is relatively new. For admission to this direction, essentially the same subjects are required that are taken in the case when an applicant applies to the Faculty of Economics.

This includes Russian language, mathematics and social studies. So, what is meant by business informatics?

Business informatics, what kind of profession is it and who to work with

If we talk in simple language, then business informatics includes several disciplines at once - computer science, economics and management. During training, the student acquires knowledge in economics, mathematics, statistics, information management and computer science, as well as practical skills in programming and design.

Who to work with

Having graduated from a university, a former student faces a very difficult question regarding employment. And this is a really serious problem in many cases. Despite good advertising about studying in the field of “business informatics” and the wide opportunities that will open up after graduating from a university, in reality it turns out that a person knows everything and nothing. How is this possible? Very simple.

How long to study

In the first year, the student takes mathematics, which is supplemented by the study of foreign languages, in particular English. Along with mathematical disciplines, by the third year the student masters macro and microeconomics, accounting, network advertising, economic theory, management, marketing, etc.

In total, only 2 years are allotted for studying programming in business informatics, and even less for computer science - a year. Thus, the graduate turns out to be an under-economist, and it will also be difficult to call him a programmer, since this requires studying programming for at least 4 years.

As a result, it turns out that a person who graduates from the department in this area receives a little knowledge in the field of personnel management, marketing, economics, and others.

Therefore, if you have such a diploma, it will be quite difficult to get a job in narrow areas in the field of IT technologies or in narrower specialties. Just like becoming a full-fledged business analyst, which is promised while studying at a university, will not work either.

But even with such a scattered list of knowledge, if you don’t manage to get a job in your specialty, as an alternative, you can try yourself in creating own business connected to the Internet. For example, develop and create websites and blogs with subsequent sale, etc.

Results

Thus, when the question arises “business informatics, what kind of profession is it and who to work for,” as you can see, although it sounds good, it is in fact not the most successful option for investing money in your own education.

Since most often this direction in universities is paid. If you invest money in education, it is better to do it in alternative option– information management.

Upon completion of training, the graduate becomes a full-fledged analyst in the economic and information sphere. In any case, the choice of where to enroll and what specialty to obtain remains solely with the applicant.

As an applicant, I wanted to enroll and study a specialty with which in the future I could start a career in the field of information technology. Plus, at the time of admission, VolSU was and remains now the only university in the city in the classical sense of this type of educational institution. Therefore, the choice fell on VolSU.

During my studies, the university left only positive memories and a certain amount of basic knowledge and skills that served as the basis for further professional development.

Why was preference given to the specialty “business informatics” upon admission? Are you satisfied with your choice?

The field of training business informatics is a modern specialty in the field of information technology, so the choice was made in its favor. I am completely satisfied with my choice and wish the department in the future to place greater emphasis on the applied aspect in the study of modern information technologies.

If the applicant makes an informed choice when enrolling, then studying will be a pleasure and there will be no question of difficulty. Due to the versatility of the subjects, every day of training will be interesting.

In my opinion, the main thing I learned at university was to study. This skill is the most critical in the IT field. Without constant self-education, knowledge and skills depreciate within a very short cycle. The Department of P&MME gave basic knowledge and concepts of system analysis, economic subject area, database design, domestic business applications.

Do not follow the mass choice, do not choose a profession only because of the desire to study with school friends or because of the difficulty of studying. I advise you to choose the direction of study based on your own preferences and hobbies. Daily interest in what you do is the key to future success and overcoming all difficulties.

The field of study “Business Informatics” is suitable for a “universal” applicant who balances the knowledge and qualities of a humanist, and demonstrates the ability to understand the exact sciences, as well as IT technologies. In case of preponderance of interests in one of the parties, the corresponding areas of training should be considered.

Why did you choose the specialty “Business Informatics” during admission? Are you satisfied with your choice?

To be honest, I had no idea after school what I wanted to work with. I chose this specialty because it provides quite broad knowledge: IT, management, analytics. After finishing my studies, with a more conscious look, I chose the area in which I wanted to work and develop.

How complex/interesting/exhaustive can training in this area be considered?

Already now I can appreciate how useful it was, although during training it is always difficult to draw such conclusions, since I was not faced with the tasks that I currently have. As a result, I can safely say that I shouldn’t have paid due attention to some subjects - I’m catching up now.

Despite the fact that for the first three years after graduating from university, I practically did not apply my knowledge. Now I only use them: analytics, project management, enterprise economics.

Set yourself challenging tasks and do the impossible. You can do anything, the main thing is to believe in it.

Who should take the Business Informatics major?

It's worth going to for anyone who wants to be an IT manager. For those who have not yet decided what exactly they want to do. Education will provide a wide range of knowledge that can be applied in many areas.

A classic university with a large selection of areas of study. You can find a specialty that suits you.

VolSU left many unforgettable impressions in my memory. New friends, knowledge and precious experience - all this at VolSU.

Why was preference given to “business informatics” during admission? Are you satisfied with your choice?

At school I studied in the information and mathematics class and even then I understood that I wanted to give preference to the exact sciences. How complex/interesting/exhaustive can training in this area be considered?

The training in the Bachelor's program "Business Informatics" was very interesting. The acquired theoretical knowledge was always consolidated through a large number of practical, laboratory and individual work.

When choosing future profession, in my opinion, the main thing is not to make a mistake. If you doubt it, imagine yourself in 10 years. Who would you like to work as? And not just work, but get a lot of pleasure from the process. When I entered VolSU in 2011, I had a huge choice of majors to choose from. However, the choice fell on the direction of bachelor’s training “Business Informatics”, which I have never regretted.

Who should take the Business Informatics major?

It is worth going to anyone who is interested in gaining knowledge in the fields of economics, computer science, management and business. And of course, the realization that after graduating from VolSU you will have great potential and a desire to apply the knowledge gained by working in the field of information technology.

Why VolSU and what impression did the university leave during your studies?

In my opinion, VolSU is a prestigious and best university in Volgograd, capable of providing all the necessary knowledge and development opportunities. Only the best impressions remained. During my studies, I made many good friends, learned a lot of new things, and realized my plans.

Why was preference given to the field of training “business informatics” during admission? Are you satisfied with your choice?

At school I had a great passion for computer science, however, I did not give it any thought of great importance and by the end of 11th grade I was choosing between a manager and a programmer. It was not possible to qualify as a programmer because the passing grades did not allow me to pass. As a result, I chose a middle course between economics and computer science and entered the Business Informatics major. Yes, I am satisfied with my choice and do not regret that I did not choose some other direction.

How complex/interesting/exhaustive can training in this area be considered?

Studying in the field of “Business Informatics” actually looks very simple if you have a thirst for knowledge and a passion for the process of learning new things. Most disciplines are accompanied practical tasks and laboratory work, which plays a big role in consolidating the theory. There were, of course, complex disciplines that required more effort to study.

What opportunities does studying at VolSU, in general, and the Department of Applied Informatics and Mathematical Methods in Economics, in particular, provide for realizing personal and professional goals?

At VolSU you can find many friends, gain useful skills and experience for further development and getting a job. As you study, you will be able to take part in various seminars, participate in scientific conferences and work on your own projects that you can implement.

The department has a friendly and good staff of teachers who will provide not only basic knowledge and skills, but also show the way for development and give advice in difficult situations.

How did you imagine your future profession? Did you find the knowledge you gained useful?

I imagined my future profession as complex, responsible and important. The knowledge gained was very useful when finding a job, but, of course, not all of it. Without the theoretical basis that is given at the university, it is very difficult to work. Many of the subjects I studied that I thought were unnecessary ended up being useful, and I believe that no matter what knowledge is, it will always come in handy.

In my opinion, choosing a profession is a very important point, which you need to stop and think about for at least a year or two, otherwise, otherwise, you will not be interested in studying and you will waste your time. If you can’t decide where to go or what to choose, think about what you’re best at doing, what you want to do, what you have the ability to do, or what your loved ones advise you to do. There is no need to be afraid of the unknown, in which case you are only limiting yourself in your capabilities. To make a choice, google reviews, look at the training program in this area, read what disciplines are included in the training standard this direction and determine how interesting they are to you.

Who should take the Business Informatics major?

I consider this direction to be universal and I advise those who are interested in programming, website creation, management, business management, analytics, etc. to go there. This direction has prospects in the fields of computer science, management, economics or business management.

After completing your studies, you still have many friends and acquaintances with whom you can realize any personal and professional goals.

How did you imagine your future profession? Did you find the knowledge you gained useful?

Every day, get up early in the morning and drive 2 hours to the office to do monotonous, monotonous work day after day. No! I never imagined this. My future profession seemed to me to be in comfortable conditions, prestigious, responsible and with the opportunity for self-realization.

Can you handle the task? Get over it. Can't you? Divide it into small tasks and deal with them one by one. It is important to take the first step and then not stop at all the subsequent ones.

Today it has increased huge amount questions regarding what business informatics is, who to work with and why is it interesting? If we start with a description of this area, then we can say with confidence that business informatics is one of the youngest specialties related to the field of higher education. Undoubtedly, such a profession directly affects a very promising sector modern activities. The specialty was formed against the backdrop of management development, progress in the field of economics and due to wide application public information and communication technologies.

Where does the learning process begin?

From the very beginning, it is necessary to understand who business informatics work, how they work, and what they do? It is worth, first of all, paying attention to the material being studied in this specialty. At the beginning of training, which implies the initial stage of preparation, the greatest attention is paid to the natural sciences and other disciplines that lay the foundations in the field of information technology. In particular, the training course is closely related to such subjects as:

  • programming;
  • informatics;
  • building information systems (architecture development, creation, projects);
  • studying and working with databases.
  • In addition to the above, initial education includes general mathematical disciplines. Among the required subjects, students will meet:

  • mathematical analysis;
  • mathematical logic;
  • linear algebra;
  • probability theory;
  • discrete mathematics;
  • mathematical statistics.
  • Then the question comes down to the economic environment. Training for a future profession involves studying and conducting financial and management accounting, basic economic theories and many other subjects related to the humanities.

    In principle, what the profession of business informatics means and who to work with later is already becoming clear. However, that's not all. In the third and fourth years, training will go deeper into such areas of special disciplines as:

  • logistics;
  • legal informatics;
  • modeling of business processes, as well as their optimization;
  • architecture of corporate information systems;
  • personnel management;
  • information security;
  • software life cycle management;
  • strategic management and much more.
  • Of course, the classes that students receive in the early stages remain basic and differ mainly in that they relate to the theory of the subject. However, much attention in training is paid to the methodological process, which is directly related to the implementation of enterprise automation, to the design, implementation and further operation of information systems. As for the latter, students will have the opportunity to learn how to develop and operate information systems, as well as how to manage and organize an information and communications technology service.

    Practice and work for bachelors

    Practice in the field of business informatics largely depends on trainings that allow you to master all kinds of tools, programs and systems, which in turn will allow you to put into practice the knowledge acquired during the study of the theoretical basis. This includes Delphi, MS Project, Dot net and much more.

    Where can bachelors majoring in business informatics work? Specialists who have received such a degree have the right to operate as part of the executive working group. In addition, they can work as managers of various service departments and similar systems. In fact, a Bachelor of Business Informatics is professional worker who knows how to design, create, implement corporate information systems, as well as carry out analysis and necessary support.

    Demand for specialists

    Speaking about the types of professional activities, it is worth noting that according to statistics and expert assessments, the Russian market currently needs more than 150,000 lawyers, economists and managers who would be directly related to information and communication technologies, while the above-mentioned needs for specialists of similar profile is currently only partial. For Russia this is approximately 10,000 people annually. With such a growth rate of vacancies and employees, we can confidently assume that business informatics specialists will be needed for a long time and in many areas of activity at once.

    In addition, it is worth noting that broader prospects open up for bachelors of business informatics, in particular, work in the profession abroad, since according to the Bologna Declaration, the diploma received will be valid for an unlimited time and in any country that is a member this process. This is just some information that allows you to understand what a wide and sought-after range of activities the specialty of business informatics brings with it. Where to work later is up to you to decide!
