The difference between Rosneft oil is maximum from Gazprom. Which domestic oil is better? An example of comparing the main characteristics of the products of two manufacturers - Lukoil and Rosneft

16.02.2012
LUKOIL-Lux and Rosneft-Premium oils protect the engine better than Xenum X1

Synthetic motor oil has confidently taken its place among domestic products, the quality of which can be safely trusted. Convincing proof of this is the comparative tests of popular brands of Russian and imported "synthetics", which were conducted last year by experts from the "northern capital" of Russia (with the participation of an associate professor of the Department of ICE of St. Petersburg technical university Alexandra Shabanova). The main physical and chemical characteristics of the samples were evaluated in five categories (respectively, in terms of efficiency, power, extreme engine protection, environmental friendliness and cold start parameters), and the best engine oil was chosen based on the total result. The best performance in terms of efficiency and power was shown by various products. The most economical in terms of fuel consumption (as much as 9% compared to mineral oil!) Was the Belgian oil Xenum X1, created on an ester basis, which, in fact, is positioned precisely as energy-saving. The highest power is provided by the use of MANNOL Extreme, which did not show high results in other categories. On the other hand, LUKOIL-Lux took second place in both protocols, i.e. can be considered optimal in terms of efficiency / power ratio. From an environmental point of view (exhaust toxicity, phosphorus and sulfur content in oil), Xenum X1ENEOS and Japanese Gran-Touring should be considered the best, and hydrosynthetic oils turned out to be the most “dirty”: Russian SINTOIL-Ultra and German MANNOL. Under extreme loads, domestic oils proved to be more effective than others! (Just due to excess sulfur and phosphorus! Well, there is no perfection in the world!) Rosneft-Premium provides maximum protection, followed by LUKOIL-Lux and TOTEK. The top three in terms of cold start parameters are ENEOS Gran-Touring, Rosneft-Premium and LUKOIL-Lux. During the tests, the magnitude of the friction force in the motor at starting speeds, the conditional temperature of crankshaft cranking and the pour point of engine oil were taken into account. In general, LUKOIL-lux and Rosneft-Premium, which took the third and fourth places according to the results of the "pentathlon", are almost as good as Japanese and Belgian oils, even surpassing them in a number of important parameters. Foreign oils are definitely better with the environment, but domestic manufacturers provide higher protective properties, as well as a good price / quality ratio. A year earlier, a similar examination of semi-synthetic oils was carried out. And the results also turned out to be impressive for skeptics: domestic oils almost did not yield to German and Korean products, and in some ways even surpassed them.

The range of domestically produced motor oils has been growing rapidly in recent years. Therefore, motorists are often interested in the forums: "How to choose the best of domestic oils?". We decided to point out the advantages and disadvantages of well-known Russian brands of motor oils: Lukoil, Rosneft, Gazpromneft, TNK. For comparison, we will choose synthetic oils with the same viscosity 5w-40, determine which technical specifications motor mixtures of these manufacturers differ.

Lukoil

The company produces motor oils for almost all categories of cars. A separate series of motor oils of the specified manufacturer has more than 50 items. The advantage of the company is the development and production of mixtures for various types of power units operating in different operating conditions.

Synthetic products under the Lukoil brand have the following advantages:

  • protects the motor from wear in severe operating conditions;
  • provides noise reduction;
  • contributes to fuel economy;
  • prevents the formation of high-temperature deposits;
  • has good detergent properties;
  • liquid does not change its structure at high and low temperatures;
  • affordable price: it costs 2 times cheaper than foreign analogues, while not inferior to them in quality;
  • replacement period up to 10 thousand km.

There are no obvious shortcomings.

Second place

Rosneft

Large company in the oil field. Has a fairly large range of products for cars, trucks, agricultural, shipbuilding equipment. Produces motor fluids that meet the requirements of world standards.

To the benefits engine oils Rosneft companies include:

  • good operational properties;
  • products are adapted to domestic operating conditions;
  • is the leader in the cold start category among Russian oils;
  • reduces the friction force in power units;
  • has an extended replacement interval;
  • affordable cost;
  • has good anti-wear properties.

Of the minuses - it has low energy-saving properties.

Third place

Gazpromneft

It is a very young company with a leading position in the oil market. Gazpromneft invests a lot of assets in the development and modernization of motor oil production. The products of this brand meet the requirements of domestic and foreign motors.

Advantages of motor fluids of the specified company:

  • the presence of unique modifiers that reduce friction in the motor units;
  • additional reduction in fuel consumption;
  • protection of the power unit from soot;
  • protection of oil channels and internal elements of the turbine from deposits;
  • excellent temperature-viscosity characteristics.

These oils do not have clearly expressed shortcomings leading to engine wear. The motor fluids of this company are among the best not only among domestic manufacturers, but also among many foreign brands.

Fourth place

The company, which occupies a significant place in the oil market, is actively developing, producing several lines of transmission and motor oils. Magnum motor fluid, made using Ultratec technology, is very popular.

Product advantages:

  • stability of the oil film in the most loaded motor nodes;
  • protects the power unit from the formation of soot;
  • ensures stable operation of the engine;
  • reduces the amount of noise;
  • has good anti-corrosion, detergent properties;
  • has good low temperature performance

Of the shortcomings - the high cost.

Outcome

Answering the question: "How to choose the best domestic motor oil?". We concluded that the products of Russian manufacturers, being in competition with foreign brands, are of good quality. The clear leader is Lukoil, followed by the giants Rosneft and Gazpromneft, then TNK.

When choosing an engine mixture, be guided by the recommendations of the manufacturer of your car. Wrongly selected car oil even best quality may damage the motor.

You will spoil the porridge with butter! If the oil is not from that barrel and not for its intended purpose ...

Have you ever wondered why in Russia there is such a truly Russian attitude towards everything Russian? That is, AvtoVAZ is firewood, UAZ is scrap metal, GAZ is a minibus, and all patriotism ends faster than the word “patriot” sounds in Luxembourgish. These are three letters, if anything, but not what they write on the fence.

The collapse of the USSR and the first years of the “young” Russia did their job, and many cooperative booze frankly tarnished the reputation of all Russian production. Some still continue to soak without being afraid of the punishing hand of justice and conscience, but we are not talking about them.

He asked for an opinion on which engine oil to choose for domestic SUVs UAZ Patriot and UAZ Pickup. Moreover, he emphasized the word “domestic”, but no one came up with an associative series: a Russian car - Russian oil. They offered everything, even some exotic names, more like the name of a newly formed country somewhere in Africa.

Breaking stereotypes is a difficult and thankless job. Moreover, ten years ago I would have looked at myself today with a good dose of sarcasm: Russian oil? Don't make my horseshoes laugh (s). But now, quite seriously, I want to evaluate the market for Russian-made oils. Great topic for research!

Who is first?

Drove to the nearest gas station. Among domestic brands, oils from Gazprom, Rosneft, TNK and Lukoil are offered. Surely there is someone else, but I didn’t have their gas stations within my reach.

Why did you look at gas stations? Because, for example, I'd rather buy TNK oil at a TNK gas station than at Uncle Vasya's spare parts store. I will not explain why, everything is clear here. I don't have any other shops that I trust.

The sites of oil manufacturers somehow do not dazzle with an abundance of information and this is a big omission. On the official page, Rosneft found information that, according to statistics, oils of this brand occupy a third of Russian oil production. Third! And this is not counting the fact that the TNK brand can also be put into the asset of Rosneft. Therefore, we will begin our research with it.

I must say right away that politics and personalities in this context are not interesting to me at all. What is interesting is what is on store shelves, how and where it is produced, and whether there is a reason to choose one or another product.

Butter oil?

A bit of educational program: Commodity oil, that is, packed in a jar and displayed in trading floor oil, consists of base oil - the base and a complex of additives. That is, all terms like “detergent”, “absorbent”, “increasing the compression of an aging unit”, these are all properties not of the oil itself, but of what is added to it.

In an even more accessible language, then the story that oil is great for your engine is because ... (hereinafter referred to as the situation) refers solely to marketing and process simplification. With the same effect, you can buy just good clean oil and add ingredients to your taste: even a jar of “compression”, even a bowl of “washing powder”. Explained clearly?

Naturally, in order to make life easier for us, manufacturers produce oil already with a packaged composition of additives responsible for certain properties of the oil. Agree that it will be very inconvenient to buy oil, and to add to it additional options. Although, someone with a lot of free time would definitely like it.

The Rosneft website has information about the factories that produce all the company's lubricants. There are five such plants and all of them are located on the territory of Russia. I even found literature for official use with comments on Rosneft oils.

The white-on-blue dealer brochure explains additives and mentions patent-protected foreign components. That is, the composition of the oil contains the same components that are used by foreign brands. The difference can only be in their composition, since any commercial oil is a set of components. I already wrote about this.

Here I have a question, who can better select the components of oil and lubricants for operation in Russia - focused on Russian market manufacturer or making universal oil for the whole world? The question is purely theoretical. I'm interested in your opinion.

There are a lot of things in the list of Rosneft products. There are even positions that I do not quite understand. For example, transformer oil, the purpose of which I vaguely imagine. Most likely just for cooling and corrosion protection. I'm interested in car oil.

We don't pour everything that pours!

All my cars use synthetic oil, so I will pursue my own selfish interests and study synthetics. If someone is interested in something else, then the Internet will give out many times more information than I do.

Synthetics Rosneft Premium complies with API SM / CF and is approved by Wolksvagen. Moreover, there is information that this oil is approved by Wolksvagen and Daimler AG for use in vehicles with increased service intervals. This intrigued me and I'll explain why.

If someone does not know, then UAZ changed the frequency Maintenance brand cars and, accordingly, oil changes from “every 10,000 kilometers” to “every 15,000 kilometers”. This corresponds to the interservice run of many foreign cars and means that even greater requirements are placed on the quality of the oil. It turns out that such approval is very helpful.

In the description of the oil there is an indication that it can be used in engines running on fuel with a sulfur content of up to 0.5%.

This is relevant for Russia, since when traveling it is not always possible to refuel at branded gas stations, and not at their color-scheme fakes. And what is poured there is a big question.

Theoretically, the semi-synthetics Rosneft Maximum, corresponding to API SL / CF and approved by AvtoVAZ, would also fit without question, but I will still focus on synthetics for my purposes.

Interestingly, in the description of the maximum semi-synthetics there is an indication of protecting the engine from leaks. That is, we recall the process of making commercial oil and understand that the manufacturer intends to use it in old and shabby engines and has taken measures by adding the appropriate additive.

Would an import manufacturer make it? Probably yes, but in a special oil.

How to take care of oil?

They say that some mechanics can determine the bad condition of the oil by taste, but something I don’t want to learn this. I check the condition of the oil in the engine exclusively visually, by touch and by smell. This is very inaccurate and rather just to calm the soul. It will be quite suspicious - we will go to change the oil before the set time.

Naturally, if there is some kind of heterogeneity in the oil, it smells of burning or there are foreign inclusions in it, this means possible problems. This is especially true for SUVs actively used on the road. The ingress of water into the oil guarantees the appearance of an emulsion and it is better to hurry up with its replacement.

Especially, it is worth checking the oil for the presence of an emulsion in the axle gearboxes, gearbox and transfer case, if you have recently plunged deeply into the water, and the units do not have a higher breather outlet. I prefer to change the oil more often than the indicated dates in all units and without the presence of an emulsion. The reliability of the car when traveling is more important than savings, which can turn out to be more expensive.

as a conclusion.

If you dig on the Internet, you can find studies of the magazine "Behind the wheel" dated 2011, where in laboratory research it was found that domestic oils provide more protection, and imported ones - environmental friendliness. By the way, then Rosneft oil received a very good rating.

Five years have passed since then, but my thoughts on more attention to engine protection in adverse conditions supported by external findings.

Another reason could be the price. On average in the market, Rosneft Premium synthetics are 1.5-2 times cheaper than most foreign analogues. As for other types of oils, everyone is free to do their own research and I think that the price tag will also be different.

For some, the above information may already be enough to draw their own conclusions. Russian manufacturers step forward, use modern technologies and compositions, which means there is reason to believe that Russian oils are no worse than their counterparts.

Further, the matter is in additives, but, returning to the question of their selection, it is not a fact that oil made for Europe is also good for the realities of our country. I don't wear pink glasses, but I have a desire and a reason to believe that quality products can be made in Russia.

That's all for Rosneft oils. I still have time to choose what I will fill in my engine. There is time to evaluate what other manufacturers offer. I'll take a look, compare, and come back to this post. In any case, I believe that domestic producers it is necessary to give a chance, and not to throw them into the well of stereotypes.

So I have a question for you:

What kind of oil do you pour into your engines and can you trust domestic manufacturers?

It cannot be said that Rosneft oils have impeccable technical characteristics. But it is worth considering the price segment in which the products of this manufacturer are located. Due to good quality, wide range and affordable price, Rosneft enjoy in great demand. In 2012, the company also signed an agreement with Russian company"AvtoVAZ", and now its products are used in the engines of cars that come out from under the concern's conveyor. So, today many drivers use this brand of lubricant without even knowing it.

A few words about the company

Rosneft is the leader of the domestic oil industry, as well as one of the most large companies in the world. The RN-Lubricants subsidiary of this giant is engaged in the production and sale of oils for passenger cars and commercial vehicles, and even for industrial equipment.

In the rating, the company producing additives in Russia, it is Rosneft that takes the first place, it produces more than 300 types of products for cars. If we take the entire market of lubricants in Russia, then the share of Rosneft in it will be 19%, which is quite a lot. In total, there are 5 factories in Russia.

Brand oils are a product of joint development of the company, employees scientific enterprises and car manufacturers. The main "Rosneft" that are supplied to the market: "Premium" synthetics, "Optimum" mineral oil, "Maximum" semi-synthetics, and "Express" washing composition. Note that the company includes special additive bases, thanks to which the product retains its characteristics throughout the entire service life. All oils meet the requirements of European standards and are adapted for different conditions work. The company is quite serious about the production process and quality control, from oil production to the sale of the final product to consumers.

Overview of oils "Rosneft"

As we have already said, there are 4 categories of oils that are supplied to the market: Premium, Maximum, Express, Optimum. Each category includes its specific products with unique features and they are suitable for different types engines.

Premium

This category includes only one Rosneft oil - synthetics with a viscosity grade of 5W40. The composition includes a package of additives, making this product ideal for use in VAZ vehicles. Also, these oils can be used in engines of European manufacturers. This product is supplied to the market in canisters from 1 to 4 liters.

The advantages of this Rosneft oil:

  1. It has a high viscosity index and retains its lubricating properties even at low outside temperatures. Therefore, it can be used in winter, providing easy engine start at low temperatures.
  2. Provides a high level of reliability of the engine, creating the necessary oil film under any operating conditions.
  3. Fights deposits on engine parts throughout the entire period of operation, which increases engine life.
  4. Protects friction pairs from wear and is shear stable.
  5. It has high compatibility with engines that run on gasoline with a high sulfur content.
  6. It features low consumption due to the lack of volatility.
  7. Possesses high resistance to oxidation.

Note that this product is appropriate to use in new engines. The "Premium" category is intended for use in highly accelerated most modern engines running on diesel fuel or gasoline, as well as those with turbocharging. Oil shows itself equally effectively in domestic cars, as well as in models of European and American manufacturers.

Oils "Rosneft" Maximum

The Maximum line features a lower cost and base. This includes several products of different viscosities. The Maximum line also includes lubricants based on semi-synthetics. Rosneft oils in this category are represented by two products - with a viscosity of 5W40 and 10W40.

Maximum 5W40

This is an all-weather universal semi-synthetic oil. It includes a balanced package of additives from world manufacturers, thanks to which the product has received anti-corrosion properties and thermal stability, antioxidant and dispersing properties.

The product is intended for use in turbocharged gasoline engines, as well as in diesel power plants of domestic and foreign production, the instructions of which prescribe the possibility of using oils of this quality level. Note that oil with a viscosity of 5W40 is ideal for use in Russia, because the temperature range of the product is wide: from -30 to +35 degrees.

Rosneft 5W40 oil reviews are mostly positive. In particular, buyers highlight the following advantages:

  1. Affordable price compared to products of other oils with the same viscosity.
  2. Economical expense. The oil does not go to waste, and its level practically does not change from replacement to replacement.
  3. Easy start of the engine even in severe frosts.
  4. Maintaining optimal pressure even under heavy loads and high engine speeds.

The manufacturer also claims that the oil prevents deposits on engine parts, but the average owner is unlikely to be able to check this.

Maximum 10W40

It is also a multigrade semi-synthetic oil with a special additive package. Its main difference from the previous one is the viscosity of 10W40. This means that the product is more dense. Like the previous lubricant in the line, this one can also be used in summer and winter. True, the temperature range of operation is different. If an oil with a viscosity of 5W40 can operate at a temperature of -30 degrees, then 10W40 will thicken at a higher temperature - in the region of -20 degrees.

Below is a graph of the viscosity of oils with an indication of their temperature ranges of operation.

In all other respects, Maximum 5W40 oil is almost no different from Maximum 10W40. Both products have anti-corrosion properties, thermal stability and are approved by Avtovaz.

Category Optimal

Mineral-based oils fall into this category. They include multifunctional additives. These products are intended for all-weather use, and it is appropriate to fill them in carburetor engines, as well as in injection engines running on diesel fuel, gas and gasoline.

Rosneft oils of the Optimal category are supplied to the market with the following viscosity parameters:

  1. 10W30.
  2. 10W40.
  3. 15W40.

All of them boast increased antioxidant stability, protection against engine corrosion and various deposits. When operating within their temperature ranges, the products will ensure normal engine starting.

Flushing oil "Rosneft" Express

This product is also made on a mineral basis and contains a large package of effective detergent additives. It is intended for quick flushing of gasoline and diesel engines from deposits that are necessarily formed during operation. It is recommended to use the Express product when changing the oil, as well as after too long use of lubricant, for preventive cleaning of motors.

The process of using this "flush":

  1. Warm up the engine to operating temperature.
  2. Drain the used oil completely.
  3. Fill with Express oil. The volume should be standard. The entire oil system must be filled.
  4. Start the engine at idle and let it run for 15 minutes.
  5. Drain the used fluid. Notice the color. If the oil has become very dark during these 15 minutes, then this indicates an effective cleaning of the engine.
  6. Change oil filter and fill with fresh oil.

There was an old enterprise in Omsk, rebuilt by the hands of captured Germans, for the production of motor oils of the M6G12 type. However, in 2009, the Omsk Lubricants Plant (OZSM) became part of Gazpromneft-Lubricants, and more than 3.5 billion rubles were invested in imported equipment. I saw French - Gazprom's is no worse! But...

X and interlacing of pipes with automatic valves, remote center blending controls with large computer screens, robotic bottling and packaging lines... The Omsk complex with a capacity of 300,000 tons of oil per year is just as sparsely populated as in French - less than 60 workers and operators manage everything. Unless the transshipment warehouse for nine thousand tons of products is not automated, and cargo trolleys-robots do not scurry between it and the production.

Main mixers (pictured) - from 25 to 40 tons. And small batches of oils are mixed in three-ton containers. For accurate dosing, the components are fed automatically from barrels standing on the scales

Well, there are no distillation columns for oil distillation on the territory. Local, Russian, only mineral base for the simplest and most inexpensive oils (from 80 to 120 rubles per liter in four to five liter canisters): it comes directly through pipes from the nearby Omsk oil refinery, which is also owned by Gazpromneft. Nothing more technological neighbor-refinery, alas, can not help. And if the companies Lukoil or TNK produce their own hydrocracking base for their semi-synthetics, then Gazpromneft-SM is still forced to purchase it from the Korean company Zic. This is good, by the way: base oils VHVI in Ulsan. It is also good that ready-made semi-synthetics from Gazprom come out much cheaper than imported purely Korean ones (145-240 versus -240-340 rubles per liter). But the own production of the “base”, which is carried out by Lukoil (from 120 rubles) or TNK (from 130 rubles), is even more profitable.

Unlike the Korean plant Zic (AR No. 17, 2010), the packaging of oil in large containers is also automated.

And polyalphaolefin bases (PAO) for the top “synthetics” in Russia for their oils are made only by Tatneft: Gazpromneft-SM buys PAO from Mobil. At the same time, Russian synthetic-based oil is one and a half times cheaper than Mobil 1.

Control and management of oil mixing is carried out remotely

Do I need to say that additive packages are only purchased? They are sold off the shelf by Infineum, Afton, Lubrizol or Chevron Oronite. By the way, it was from Chevron Global Energy that Gazprom Neft acquired a license to use oil production technologies in early 2009, together with a small (capacity of only 30 thousand tons per year) Chevron Italia S.p.A. in Italian Bari. They make more high-tech lubricants under the G-Energy brand, while in Omsk they mainly produce oils of the more affordable Gazpromneft brand with a less complex additive package.

In 2009, patent rights were purchased from Chevron for trademark Texaso, and today mineral oil for marine engines is produced under this brand in Omsk

In the retail market, the share of Gazprom oils is small - only 5%: the same Lukoil and TNK, for example, have two or three times more. But Gazpromneft-SM supplies lubricants to Russian conveyors of Mercedes-Benz Trucks Vostok, Rostselmash, Derveys, KAMAZ and Avtotor (for Hyundai vehicles). Could compete for primary filling on conveyors foreign manufacturers- but they lose tenders because of the price: lack of own production the most popular hydrocracking base. Gazprom Neft and Rosneft are going to launch their production of "hydrocracking" in Yaroslavl only in next year. And only then - in Omsk.
