In its current form, MRP OJSC was founded on June 29, 1994 on the basis of the Moscow River Shipping Company that had existed since 1857.

The history of the shipping company dates back to May 29, 1857, when by order “by the Ministry of Communications and Public Buildings No. 105 of the Guards, Captain Lvov, according to his request, was allowed to establish a towing and passenger shipping company along the Moscow River from Moscow to the confluence of this river into the Oka, by Oka from Orel to Nizhny Novgorod and along the Volga River from Tver to Simbirsk.

Thus, shipping was organized along the Moscow and Oka rivers, indicating the boundaries of the shipping company. The opening of a shipping company in Moscow was reported in newspapers dated May 3, 1858. It was this date that began to be considered the date of foundation of the Moscow River Shipping Company.

By the beginning of the 1990s, the Moscow River Shipping Company had a fleet of both cargo and passenger river vessels, as well as motor ships of a mixed "river-sea" class; was engaged in the maintenance and construction of the fleet, the extraction and transportation of construction and other cargoes, the development of a suburban river passenger traffic, as well as tourist river transport.

At the time of the collapse of the RSFSR and the formation of the Russian Federation (August 1991), the passenger river tourist fleet was represented by the following vessels:

In the first half of the 1990s, the shipping company lost several ships: “60 years of October” was, “L. V. Sobinov" - to Bulgaria, "Ivan Susanin" - and "Sergo Ordzhonikidze". In 1996, also on Lake Ladoga, “K. E. Tsiolkovsky", after which he also retired from the MRP fleet.

In August 1997, OJSC "Moscow River Shipping Company" registered a subsidiary company, which included the organization and implementation of river cruise tourism on passenger ships of the shipping company.

In 2003, the Moscow River Shipping Company, together with state structures and companies of Ukraine, formed on a parity basis, to the balance of which 5 cruise river passenger ships that previously worked in Ukraine were transferred. In 2004, OJSC MRP bought out shares from other participants, becoming the full owner of the ships, which the shipping company transferred to Russia, leasing it to its company Mosturflot. In 2004 CJSC Volzhsko-Dneprovskaya shipping company”, registered in Ukraine, became the founder, registered in Moscow.

In 2010, the Moscow River Shipping Company leased a four-deck motor ship as a floating hostel for work on the Caspian Sea, and in 2011 a single-type motor ship. In 2016, Princess Anastasia returned to the cruise market again, and Krizhanovsky, having completed work in the Caspian Sea in 2017, went into cruise work in 2019 under the name.

In August 2016, by order of the Moscow River Shipping Company in the Astrakhan Region, a cruise ship, which was named in December 2017. The delivery of the vessel was planned for 2019, but then the dates were changed.
