Organizing a job search includes not only identifying the places where. Active job search Organization of job search includes

There is such a pattern - hired work takes about 8 hours a day, and searching for a job takes an hour and a half a day. There are rare cases when people spend 6-8 hours a day looking for a job, but this approach allows you to find a job in 5-10 days.

Of course, not everyone needs that kind of speed. If you have time on your hands, you can take it slower, take it easy, and spend months looking for a job. The matter is voluntary.

This article is about how to short term find good job. The quick job search technology consists of 4 steps.

Your wishes

What is your dream or just want to do? First you need to decide on this - this is the basis for further actions. When answering this question, follow these guidelines:

  • Abstract yourself from your current activity (especially if it does not bring you pleasure or does not meet any conditions)
  • Leave your previous experience alone. After all, it may be that you want to become a teacher, and you have extensive work experience in construction. And then what, work as a builder all your life??
  • Create very comfortable, cozy conditions for yourself. Do you like to spend time in the country? Go there, light the stove, sit back, feel free. Or you have a favorite cafe, go there, order coffee and remember what you like to do.

Naturally, all the ideas that come to mind need to be written down. You can also remember, but it’s better to write it down - this way nothing will be forgotten or distorted.

Specifics

The ideas received from your consciousness and subconscious need to be turned into reality. That is, set goals.

If you want to help children, it doesn't have to be a job kindergarten. This could be the organization of holidays and the invention of educational games and medicine and the construction of children's playgrounds and... There can be a thousand such options. You need to choose 1-2 of the most interesting and pleasant ones you see.

To do this, look at job sites, read newspapers, talk to your friends (or strangers). In this case, you need information from those people who have already done this. Then find out what your chosen activity is called, at least approximately, in the labor market.

The labor market often thinks in certain clichés. They call everyone engineers, marketers, programmers. But in each organization these specialists do different things! The same work is not enough.

When you have decided on the approximate name of your specialty, select companies that work in this field. By researching companies, you'll learn a lot about what you want to do and what's going on in the industry right now. If you see that there is little information on the website about the company’s services, do not be lazy, call the manager in the sales department and ask him about the company’s services. Communicate, learn, explore.

The choice of companies is one of the most important steps! At this stage, a clear employment goal is formed. It is a clear and specific goal that helps you quickly find a job.

Preparation

The specialization has been chosen, the companies that deserve you are also chosen. Now we need to prepare for a future meeting and negotiations with the heads of these companies.

Well, let's get to work!

  • A competent and attractive resume. Previously, I wrote about how to write a competent resume. Once again in a nutshell: structured, in simple and understandable words, clearly and, preferably, on one A4 sheet.
  • A well-written cover letter.
  • Thoughtful appearance. This handyman or taxi driver may come to an interview without thinking about the first impression, and you, I hope, have a different opinion of yourself.
  • Responsibility. First of all, punctuality! Be on time and keep your word.
  • Positive and attitude for success. Are you talking on the phone with a company representative? Smile! When you come for an interview, look into your eyes more often, smile again and glow from within. Positive people are remembered.

Active actions

You have a vision of your specialty, a list of companies where you want to work and you are ready to look for a job. We must act and be persistent.

I would like to clarify one point right away: searching for vacancies is a maximum of 20% of the result you can get. That’s why the article is called “ active job search” that the emphasis is on your initiative, and not on how many open positions there are currently on the market. Moreover, there may be no vacancies at all.

  • Call the company and meet with the head of the desired department or HR manager
  • Send your resume there. Sending your resume to a specific person (you need to call them by name in the letter) gives you a higher chance of success
  • After sending your resume, be sure to call the company and find out if they received the letter
  • Gently ask when it would be convenient to call and talk in more detail
  • Thank the person on the other end of the line and record the next date of contact in your diary.

Do you know what this method of action gives?

You will be remembered! And this is already half the success.

Negotiation

Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonnier, "The Game of Chess", 1841.

If before the interview the task was to arrange a meeting, then at the interview the task is to convince the manager that the company will need you and will be successful at work.

Many books, articles, advice have been written about how to negotiate, and there are also many trainings. I wrote an article about how to prepare for an interview. Here I will give only 2 tips for negotiations: show the manager your desire to work in this particular company and convince him that you will be successful and worth the requested salary. Convince management, “sell” yourself, bargain.

Warning

My job search method does not answer the question “How to look for a job correctly?” This method does not guarantee 100% success. This method gives you confidence in your abilities and allows you to find “that job” (and maybe business or startup partners - who knows how things will turn out during negotiations).

I'm guessing you'll find a job at 1 in 7 companies. But different scenarios are possible.

For anyone who dreams of quality employment (searching for an ideal position based on priority criteria) or a change of job and is actively working in this direction, it is important to decide on the most effective way to realize this goal. There are few methods themselves, they are traditional and known to everyone. So.

  1. Patronage, that is, involving friends and relatives in the process of one’s own employment. This is informing them of your intentions and asking for assistance or, at a minimum, a hint that a place has become available, the company is expanding, etc.

The method is quite effective, on the one hand, and allows access to “closed” vacancies and offers, i.e. those that are not conveyed by employers to employment centers, recruitment agencies, or relevant catalogs.

On the other hand, there are also many nuances in this approach, which makes it insufficiently effective for most situations. This is the inability to control the course of events, unclear time parameters, patronage can also play against the applicant (not all employers are impressed by such tactics of searching, selecting and checking personnel), etc. In other words, the method is of the nature of “being in the right place and right time" And if a high-quality, good, promising job interests the applicant in the near future, then it will be more effective to use the “protection” method in combination with other employment tactics.

2. Contacting a specialized agency is one of the most popular and common tactics.

There are many advantages that make this method quite effective. This is an opportunity to set clear criteria, goals and time frames. Further, the assistance of recruitment companies is not limited to processing and analysis open bases with offers from employers. This is also assistance in the aspect of writing a resume, preparing for an interview, determining your optimal specialization, etc. You can also count on offers from so-called “closed” databases, which are often available recruitment companies, as a result of their direct cooperation with a number of employers.

There are also nuances. So, it is very important to find a truly professional, reliable, correct specialized company. And also “our” specialist in it, who will clearly understand and feel the candidate’s priorities, his goals and abilities.

3. Independent search. He can perhaps be called truly the most productive. The reason for this is the strict control of all stages, as well as those modern capabilities, which are at the disposal of the applicant, ranging from profile portals, ending with the ability to track vacancies on representative websites of companies.

Job search tactics are the nature of your actions in deciding this issue taking into account the influence of various circumstances:

If you are unemployed long time(more than six months), then it is more likely to set the job search tactics in such a way that the main goal is to get a job in general and with a good wages in particular. At the same time, you should not be scrupulous about your qualifications, work experience and other professional qualities, which may not be taken into account when determining your salary level or position. On the contrary, being unemployed, you should constantly remember the axiom where the time factor determines everything and everyone, and not our desires and moods. It is he who destroys the continuity of seniority and calls into question professional competence. Therefore, your job search tactics should be based on the real state of your affairs. Therefore, first – employment as such, and after adaptation to a new workplace, it will be possible to substantively understand your prospects in this organization.

If you work in one organization and want to move to work in another organization. Of course, here you should show maximum attention to your prospects. The basic rule is “you should prepare for the transition from organization to organization in advance, and not at the last moment when it comes.” In this regard, it is advisable not so much to independently analyze information on the labor market as to choose a specific recruitment agency (and more than one), that is, an organization that will professionally begin to resolve this issue. Thus, setting up this work will allow you: to cover a wide range of offers from employers, to navigate the working conditions in various organizations in your specialty and compare market offers with yours. This approach will allow you to optimize your search options and achieve clear or positive results.

If you have not worked until now and decide to get a job. First, it is necessary to clarify your position: it is one thing if you have just graduated educational institution; it’s another matter if after studying you immediately found yourself in maternity leave and it didn’t work; third, if life has not worked out in a timely manner, but the current situation forces you to do so; fourth, if you are or have become disabled. Naturally, these options can be “intertwined.” To understand your prospects here, you should start by carefully reviewing all your official documents: education, advanced training courses, various certificates, and so on. At the same time, on one side you should put aside what in your opinion (and for this, check the information on the labor market) is still relevant, and on the other side, what in your opinion is outdated or is no longer interesting to you. If at least one official document falls under relevance, then do not mope, and act through a recruitment agency, as well as on your own. If you fail with current documents, then focus on self-employment and take on any job, even not in your specialty. Since, in market conditions, first you should decide with your financial situation, and then only think about resolving the situation in principle. Therefore, especially for students, it is important to gain work experience in their specialty during an internship, which should be properly documented in accordance with current legislation. Having even a little practical experience (of a few months) will fundamentally distinguish you from your colleagues in studies or in a similar position, which will increase your chances of finding work conditions acceptable to you.

If you want to improve your official position in the same organization, that is, to advance in position, first of all, you should strengthen your rear and relationships with colleagues and immediate supervisors (managers) of divisions (departments, workshops) of the organization. At the same time, it is also advisable initially to clarify for yourself what is more acceptable for you - the position of a leader (manager) or a leading specialist, possibly with an equivalent salary, but also with a greater production load. If you decide to go for a higher position, worry in advance about your successor, who will definitely consult with you, and become familiar in advance with managers of a similar level of management in the organization so that they do not expect any unpredictable surprises from you. If you still decide to remain in your previous position, then try to let as many of the organization’s personnel as possible know about it and, as compensation, achieve the maximum official salary and other incentive payments. This will be received positively by your colleagues and co-workers, which will seriously improve your business reputation.

A job search plan in an organization can be presented as certain stages or stages of search work:

Indicate the beginning of the search, where to formulate the main tasks to achieve the goal.

Start your search, taking into account the peculiarities of the action of various labor market factors.

Provide options and schemes for job search, including features of searching via the Internet, as well as independently, through an order, or in combination.

Decide how to comply personal safety while searching.

Determine control over the work being carried out and prompt assessment of its results.

IN modern society people often change their place of work. Today there is no shame in working in one place for no more than 5 years. They will not look at you askance if you are looking for your place in the sun. What methods of finding a job exist? Read about it below.

How to find a job

Have you recently quit your job? Or maybe you just graduated from university and don’t know where to go. What are the stages of job search? Effective ways job search can be divided into several points.

  • Writing a resume. Before you think about where to find a job, you need to think about what knowledge you have and what you can offer the company. Write your resume. What should it look like? You can find a standard form and make your resume according to the sample. But this option is not welcomed by all companies. HR managers pay great attention to how a person positions himself. You need to be creative when writing your resume. Write down everything that you think a future employer might like. You should definitely mention your work experience, if any. Write yours best qualities, which will help you stand out from your competitors. It is advisable to tell short stories in two or three sentences that will show you with the best side.
  • Posting and sending out resumes. Once the document has been completed, it must be sent. Send your resume to various companies, post it on relevant sites. But you shouldn’t wait for a miracle and wait for responses. If after a week you still haven’t received a call from your dream job, call them yourself and check if your resume has arrived.
  • Go online independently and send your resume. Feel free to call and ask about available positions in the companies you would like to work for. Managers do not always update vacancies on time; perhaps there are vacancies in the company and you will be the first candidate for an interview. Ask your acquaintances and friends, maybe they can advise you something. You can check with your former colleagues who have changed jobs, whether their company needs employees.
  • Passing the interview. Last stage search is immediate personal contact with management or management. A good resume is not an indicator of your abilities. Try to behave confidently when meeting in person and not worry about whether you will be hired or not. Remember, there are always options. Don't grab the first option that comes your way. If you worry too much during an interview, you will make a bad impression.

Internet

The best way job search is an independent study of all possible vacancies. You should look for them on the Internet. Today there are many sites, for example, “Avito” and “My Advertising”. Such virtual spaces allow you to find work in any specialty and with any skills. You need to select the appropriate section and subsection. This method of searching for a job involves looking at not just one source, but at least three. Do you think vacancies are the same everywhere? This is a false statement. All employers post their recruitment advertisements on different platforms. Yes, they may duplicate vacancies on several popular sites, but not on all of them. To find a job, it is not enough to look through advertisements once a week. Job openings appear every day. View advertisements and make your responses.

You can find your dream job not only on specialized sites. What are the different ways to find a job online? Need to view social media. You can find the latest information in the official groups of large companies. You can view groups of those companies that interest you. Be sure to pay attention to contextual advertising. If you persistently look for a job for 3 days, links with job offers will periodically pop up on your monitor. Don't ignore them.

Newspapers

It's easy to find a job if you live in a large city. What if your registration is in the provinces and you don’t want to leave? Ways to actively search for a job in this case is to look at local newspapers. Such printed publications come out every week, and the information in them is updated regularly. Browse various periodicals. They will offer all kinds of vacancies, which will be divided into subsections. But keep in mind that company management does not always know in which section to advertise. Therefore, you should consider all related areas of your profession. The main ways to find a job in newspapers is to carefully study all the columns. It's easy to find a job if you don't have a specific area of expertise. It is much more difficult to find a vacancy for a person who wants to work in the profession acquired at the institute. So don't limit yourself to finding your niche only in newspapers. Consider other options as well.

Submitting a resume

One of the most popular job search sites today is hh.ru. On this site, every person applying for any vacancy must leave his resume. Then you should find those offers that interest you more than others and respond to them. Your resume will be considered not only by those companies to which you have submitted a request, but also by those that are interested in your candidacy. Such modern way job search makes the task easier for both specialists and managers. But this approach has not only advantages, but also disadvantages. You will not receive personal communication with executives or managers. It will be possible to become familiar with the working conditions only during the interview. But wages often play a big role for people. In the ad it may be one thing, but in reality it is completely different. And in the end, it turns out that a person spends a lot of time on interviews that are completely uninteresting to him. But still, there are undoubtedly advantages. You may be noticed by those who are interested in your candidacy. You can receive a request not only from your city, but also from neighboring regions. Independently monitor work big city very difficult. So for a person from the provinces, thanks to such servers, it is quite possible to sign up for an interview in the capital or in another large city.

Agencies

Job search methods via the Internet are very convenient, but they do not always help you find your place in the sun. And then agencies come to the rescue. Such institutions are engaged in selecting ideal candidates for a particular vacancy. By turning to a specialized bureau for help, you will be sure that the work that will be offered to you will not turn out to be another scam. It often happens that a person finds a job as a lawyer through an advertisement and signs up for an interview. But in reality it turns out that the office is engaged in trade and all that can offer the candidate is the position of manager. There is no point in wasting your time on such dubious organizations. Agencies vet employers and candidates. So it’s no longer possible to get a pig in a poke. And this fact is very seductive. Therefore, contrary to popular belief, one of the ways to find work and find employment should be through an agency. It gets its money deservedly, as it provides guarantees for the services provided.

Events

Do you like to attend various social parties and take all kinds of courses? For some, it may be a revelation that attending such events is one of the effective ways to find a job. People gathered at the opening of an art gallery can invite a guest to become their employee. If a person is interested in finding a job in a particular field, he will be able to freely find out from experts at the party how to start a career and where it is most profitable to do this. There is no shame in talking about work at events. People come to such meetings to socialize and get to know each other, so don’t consider visiting museums, galleries or courses a waste of time and money. Think of these hikes as another way to find your place in life.

Finding rational ways to organize career guidance work can lead a person to courses. For example, if a girl has wanted to become a florist all her life, she can undergo two weeks of training, and then talk to her teachers about finding a job. Teachers of these types of courses always have a wide circle of acquaintances, which allows them to quickly find employment for their former students. If you are unsure that you will get a job after completing your studies, ask this question before paying money for such courses.

Visiting potential jobs

It’s one thing to look for a managerial position, and quite another to try to get a job as a doctor or teacher. Effective ways to find a job for those who are looking for something specific is to bypass budgetary and commercial establishments. You can rarely find a vacancy for a dentist in advertisements, but by direct contact with the management of one of the clinics closest to your home, you can get a good idea of the situation throughout the city. If there are no places for you in a particular hospital, the telephone number of the clinic where a vacancy is open will be found for you. Not always budget and commercial organizations touch. Therefore, you should try two or three different establishments. Based on the information received, it will be possible to draw a conclusion about where it is better to go and where you should not go.

Such rounds can be done not only by those who are looking for work in a specific specialty. If you want to work as a salesperson, go to your nearest grocery store and call the manager. Explain your situation to the person, tell them about your work experience, and ask if there is a vacancy for you. Personal communication helps build trust, and the person will do everything in their power to help you.

Job fair

If you have already tried all the methods and methods of finding a job, but the experiments were not successful, then you can wait until the beginning of the next quarter. Every season, job fairs are held in all cities. At such events you can find work in any specialty. If you are a doctor, cosmetologist, builder or librarian, feel free to go to the job fair. At such events you can get detailed information about most large and medium-sized urban companies. Each visitor will have the opportunity to communicate with managers or company leaders. You can immediately go through something like a mini-interview. You can ask any questions and receive clear answers. There will be no need to linger at one table for a long time. You can exchange contacts and promise to send a resume. If you are really interested in any vacancy, you can immediately sign up for a full interview.

A job fair is a place where college students and graduates can come. Young specialists will be able to find jobs in the professions that interest them. If students do not have work experience, they may be offered paid internships or the position of assistant specialist.

Labor exchange

Don't want to look for a job on your own, or don't have the money to pay an agency? Then one of the ways to find a job is through the labor exchange. Of course, not everyone can take it up, but only those who have not yet worked, or those who have been fired. If you left the company due to at will, the road to the stock exchange is closed to you. But everyone else is welcome there with open arms. All kinds of methods and methods of finding a job take a lot of time and effort. By joining the labor exchange, a person gains more than he loses. Firstly, the minimum wage will be credited to your account monthly. Secondly, you will find vacancies in your specialty in trusted companies. Thirdly, if you cannot find a job, you will be sent for free to study at your choice. Some people even manage to cheat by specifically joining the labor exchange in order to take some courses for free. You can train to be a cook, seamstress or hairdresser. The specialties, of course, will not be university ones, but after the courses you are guaranteed employment.

Poll of friends

One of the ways to find a job is to find employment through connections. In our country, people often get jobs this way. If you have someone you know in the administration, at the labor exchange, or in some other large company, then feel free to contact him. There is no need to be shy here. It won’t be difficult for a person to find you a suitable place, and you will need it. Think you don't have connections? Everyone has them. An adult who has graduated from school and university can find acquaintances through acquaintances. Talk to your friends and classmates. Perhaps someone they know has a place they can hold for you. Don't be afraid to reach out to your teachers or mentors. Students cannot always find a good place without work experience, and teachers can help them solve the problem. Think about your colleagues or friends. Finding them will be easy thanks to social networks. Chat with your friends and then ask if they have suitable vacancy. Why does this method of employment work better than others? Your friends know you and are aware that you are a competent specialist. This is how you will be introduced to the management of the company. And when the director of the enterprise has the opportunity to hire a proven person or look for someone who may not be suitable, he will make a choice in favor of you.

Word of mouth

What other ways to find a job are there? Finding a job through friends is good option. But not everyone has an uncle in the administration or an aunt who is a school director. Those who are less fortunate will have to achieve everything on their own. How? You should earn a good reputation. This job search option is only suitable for those who engage in freelancing. Specialists need to collect a strong portfolio, and then go with it to all sorts of offices. If you are a good artist, then start your own blog or post your work on Instagram and VKontakte. Thanks to your creative approach, you will be able to earn your first subscribers. It is these people who will be able to bring you your first money, and then popularity. Create to order, create just for fun, but remember that you need to do not only what you like. Draw for people. You need to gain your audience, because it is thanks to them that you have a chance to become famous. People who create music, draw, dance, or invent creative ideas for business development, they can create a name for themselves through their efforts. You need to offer your talents wherever they may be in demand. Don't forget to tell all your friends and family about what you're doing. And whenever possible, mention your field of activity to your new acquaintances. Only after you make your name known will it start working for you. Until then, you will have to work day and night to earn a piece of bread. But such a game is worth the candle. After working for two or three years, you won’t think about where to get a job. You will be able to make money from something that brings you pleasure. When a hobby is a job, we can assume that the person is not working. A free schedule and the ability to plan your day the way you want will be a pleasant bonus.

In the program “YOUR WORK” editor-in-chief TV channel "STEP RUSSIA" Gleb Mordovchenko and the head of the recruitment agency for job seekers "IM Consulting" Alexandra Grak discussed what mistakes job seekers make when looking for work. Read about the difficulties in writing a resume and interviewing, as well as about various strategies and channels for finding a job in this issue.

- Tell me, what are the key, most important and most terrible fatal mistakes people make when trying to get a job?

First of all, I would simply divide the errors into several stages - as they occur. The first is the lack of a clear understanding of one’s positioning in the labor market. When we go looking for a job, but we don't understand our value to the market. This is exactly the story when “I’m looking for a job, just to find some kind of work.” Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way now. It will take much longer than if we know exactly what we want.

The second is, accordingly, the lack of a search strategy. It looks something like this: we do everything, everywhere, but these actions do not lead us to any result. And thirdly, when we make mistakes in some small details: we don’t prepare for an interview, we don’t disclose information in our resume. This is already the implementation stage.

- Can you give a few examples from life, how this happens in reality?

In reality: for example, when a candidate says that he wants to find a job, but he does not know who he wants to work with, what this job might look like and what, in principle, he is ready to do to look for a job. But at the same time, he sends out an insane number of responses to all vacancies: from chief accountant to ballerina. Naturally, they don’t take it anywhere.

- Fine. It turns out that you need to do it in advance and think about finding a job before you write an application general director about dismissal. Is this true?

That's true. And one of the most correct and competent strategies is probably to think about finding a job before you quit. And in general, it’s not entirely good to burn bridges like this, to part with the company, perhaps not on the most positive note.

Of course, most job seekers enter the labor market while still employed. And this allows them to part with their current employer comfortably: give advance notice, hand over their cases, get, perhaps, some recommendation from the employer, maintain good relations and subsequently enter the market - either in search or with a new employer. This is what works well. If we just abruptly quit our job and then started looking for a new one, then this strategy, as a rule, is a failure.

- Let's then talk about what, in principle, should be in general view job search strategy.

Job search strategy in general starts with us thinking about who we want to work for, where we want to work and how we want to do it. After this, understanding who our employer is, we select the channels that we will use: job search sites, recruitment agencies, social media. That is, how will we look for such a job? And depending on which channels we use, we already need to prepare the tools. For example, the same resume.

- Fine. What are the key mistakes applicants make when preparing their resumes?

There are actually quite a lot of mistakes during the resume preparation stage. First of all, this is the desire to put as much information there as possible. Then we get a huge resume that HR doesn’t read. They just don't read. This summary is over two pages.
Accordingly, the second option is a very short summary. The opposite story. This is when a couple of lines are given from the series “I worked as a chief accountant from start to finish - I completely managed everything, was responsible for everything.” No specifics. This also doesn't work now. Absence is simple contact information could be a fatal mistake. That is, they will not be able to contact you, no matter how great your resume is.

Well, a resume is such a complex thing that... It turns out that not everyone understands what it should be. And even fewer people understand how to do it correctly. What are the ways, tools, opportunities for writing a resume: maybe there are templates, maybe there are specialists who know how to do it better? Tell me what is the best way.

Of course, there is a lot of information on the Internet regarding resumes. This is partly good, because there really is a lot of it. But in order to collect it, “digest” it and get something that actually works out of it, it will take a lot of time.
You can use a template: for example, go to hh.ru and fill out a resume in the format that the site offers. You can turn to specialists: for example, career consultants. We at the agency help in writing a resume. And here it is important to take into account the characteristics of each individual applicant. If we are just talking about some template standard that you found on the Internet, it is general, it will not give you a structure that suits you best, it will not offer you a volume that will most fully reveal your experience in a resume. If we are talking about such spot work, then, of course, we always need to take into account individual characteristics experience.

- Fine. The resume is ready, HR read it, looked at it and even approved it. You have been called for an interview. Do you need to prepare for it?

We need to prepare for it. And yes, of course, a resume is the road to an interview. An important stage, but the interview is where the fun begins, because here we come face to face with the employer. And we need to prepare, because, again, there are cases when an applicant comes for an interview and does not have information about the company and does not fully understand the vacancy. This kind of interview is a failure. Therefore, preparation is half the battle.

- What should be the preparation? I am Vasya, I am going for an interview at the Romashka LLC company. What is important for me to find out exactly and prepare so that I can at least pass this interview well?

First of all, you need to understand what kind of company it is, what is accepted there, what the norms are there. And everything that concerns your work: if you are engaged in sales, then what they sell, what place they occupy in the market, what are the specifics of the product. That is, you need to go, of course, prepared precisely in terms of professional content, first of all, and knowledge about the company.

Next, we prepare from a cultural point of view, that is, we can predict a little how the interview will go if we know what it is like corporate culture companies. Most often, this information can be found on a website or on social networks (this is very relevant now, many companies operate) and see the style of communication, how things are going. And maybe slightly adjust your manner of presentation at the interview.

- That is, if you go for an interview at the Black Star company with Timati, do not go in a tie and suit - the custom there is different. Okay, the interview is underway, and there is this one important stage(as far as I know, very key in the West) are recommendations. Here in Russia, is this important, is it accepted, does the applicant need to prepare them?

Recommendations are definitely important. And the employer, as a rule, starts checking references after the initial interview, that is, either after the second interview, between some stages, perhaps.

What is important here: our task as a job seeker is to prepare, to warn those who will give us recommendations that we are looking for a job. If it was quite a long time ago when we worked with these people, then remind us: when we worked, who we worked with, how successful it was. That is, to suggest, perhaps a little, what would be correct to convey to those who will call. If it is possible to take some written recommendations upon dismissal, you should definitely do so. And you can simply collect this as a kind of piggy bank to show at an interview.

- Is there anything else worth taking with you? A portfolio, maybe some diplomas, something that confirms qualifications. Or is it just a line on a resume and nothing more?

Of course, it depends on the field of activity. If you can show something (in design this could be a portfolio), then you should definitely do it. For other specialties this is not so relevant. Diplomas, work book, all certificates can be left at home, they will take your word for it.

- Some employers (including me) like to ask the applicant to briefly tell about himself during an interview. How necessary is it to prepare such a mini-thing about who you are, what you can do and why you are important to the employer? How critical is this, how necessary is it?

Good question. And you noted very correctly: indeed, employers expect to hear such short presentation or a story about yourself. Most often during an interview, this is the very beginning of the meeting, when HR or a representative of the employer asks you to tell you a little about yourself in order to get to know each other.

The most important mistake here (we are talking about them today) is, again, some kind of redundant presentation. And it happens that the candidate begins to either retell his resume or talk in great detail about his experience - he talks one by one about all the places of work, what he did there, and this stretches out for 20-30 minutes. Attention is already lost literally in the second minute. That is, it seems that he answered all possible questions, but no dialogue or conversation took place. And this, of course, is also not winning strategy, therefore, preparing a presentation for literally one and a half to two minutes includes the most basic aspects - about your qualifications, maybe about education, why you are looking for a job, what attracted you to this particular vacancy. This is what predisposes the employer to such positive communication already at the interview.

Fine. Well, the interview was more or less successful, and the applicant and the employer move on to the most interesting part - the bidding, the negotiations on the cost. Here the question is: how can a job seeker correctly evaluate himself on the labor market - not to sell himself short and not become on the same level as labor migrants, but also not assign himself a salary that no one will ever give him or hire him? How to evaluate yourself correctly?

It’s a good question, because it’s quite difficult to evaluate yourself correctly in the current labor market, simply because there is a very large spread in wages, and the spread is severalfold. It really is. First of all, what we recommend is to look at the job market as a whole. Not only the vacancy where you are going for an interview, but in general - what is expected in this position, how much employers offer such specialists. This is the first step.

Next, we go to the job seekers market (the same hh.ru helps us), we can see what our competitors want. Because our expectations are one thing, and another thing is that we must fit into the market not only from the side of applicants’ proposals. It is important for us to understand both sides of what is happening there. Therefore, we can see what our competitors want.
Well, here’s a very small life hack: if we go for an interview for a specific vacancy and understand that the specialist for whose position we are being interviewed recently quit, then we can try to find his resume in open access, see how much money he wants.

- Fine. A very important question, we touched on it in one of our programs about leaders: how important is networking? That is, significance in the media space, behavior on social networks, the ability to make some kind of connections - how necessary is this for an ordinary, ordinary applicant, and what mistakes do they make in this area?

Let's start with the mistakes. The most important mistake is that, as a rule, networking is not used. And this is a really great way to generally tell the world about yourself, your friends, that you are looking for a job and what exactly you are doing now, what you are doing, how you can be useful.

And, again, this is one of those stereotypes that networking only works at the top management level and only for executives. Not like that. If you are looking for a job, absolutely any one - office, linear, you studied with someone, took some courses with someone, attended some events, your former colleagues, work colleagues. You can tell them about it too, and it is quite possible that they know someone, heard something or saw something. Therefore, networking also works great in this case.

- The following question: does an ordinary, ordinary applicant need a personal brand in this case?

The brand is probably in this understanding global brand the average applicant does not need it. But please take care, for example, of your reputation on social networks. Because many HR watch social networks. Therefore, it is advisable that they be tailored to the job search. Of course, post there only professional information It’s not worth it, but something compromising needs to be removed.

- Well, God bless them, with the accounts of the applicants themselves. Can social networks help in finding a job, in finding vacancies? Does it work or is it all unimportant, and you need to go where vacancies will be posted?

Well, vacancies can just be posted on social networks. In general, many companies use a socially oriented policy, going where the people are, going where the applicants are, thus reducing personnel costs, including for themselves. That is, it is beneficial for the employer to go to people’s social networks. And there are a lot of specialized groups, we can use the same Facebook, where you can get acquainted with vacancies, you can post your resume. That's why this channel also works.

- That is, forgetting about him would be a mistake.

It will be a mistake. Another thing is that it is not suitable for everyone. For example, looking for a job as a builder or accountant on Facebook will not be so successful. If we work in the IT market, PR, marketing - everything that is somehow connected with the Internet, this is the first place to go.

- Okay, we talked about the mistakes that applicants make. Let's say a few tips, a few life hacks that can make life easier when looking for a job.

First of all, in short, we formulate our value; write a short resume of up to one and a half to two pages; we tell all our friends and acquaintances that we are looking; We must post our resume on hh.ru as a job search site; preparing for an interview; we know our employer and go to the interview with a positive attitude, confident that we will be hired.
