How to calculate volume in. How to calculate the total volume of cargo: calculation of the volume of cargo. How to calculate a cube of concrete for a tape base

Remember that the volume of a cuboid (or an ordinary box) is equal to the product of its length, width and heights. If your box is rectangular or square, all you need to know is its length, width, and height. To obtain the volume, it is necessary to multiply the results of measurements. The calculation formula in abbreviated form is often presented as follows: V = L x W x H.

• Task example:"If the box is 10 cm long, 4 cm wide and 5 cm high, what is its volume?"
• V = L x W x H
• V=10cmx4cmx5cm
• V = 200 cm 3
• The "height" of the box may be referred to as the "depth". For example, the problem could contain the following information: "The length of the box is 10 cm, the width is 4 cm, and depth- 5 cm.

Measure the length of the box. If you look at the box from above, it will appear before your eyes in the form of a rectangle. The length of the box will be the longest side of this rectangle. Record the result of the measurement of this side as the value of the "length" parameter.

• Be sure to use the same unit of measure when taking measurements. If you measured one side in centimeters, then the other sides must also be measured in centimeters.
• Measure the width of the box. The width of the box will be represented by the other, shorter, side of the rectangle visible from above. If you visually connect the sides of the box measured in length and width, then they will appear in the form of the letter "G". Record the value of the last measurement as "width".

• Width is always the shorter side of the box.
• Measure the height of the box. This is the last parameter you haven't measured yet. It represents the distance from the top edge of the box to the bottom. Record the value of this measurement as "height".

• Depending on which side you put the box on, the specific sides you designate as "length", "width" or "height" may be different. However, it doesn't matter, you just need the measurements from three different sides.
• Multiply the results of the three measurements together. As already mentioned, the formula for calculating volume is as follows: V = Length x Width x Height; therefore, to obtain the volume, you simply need to multiply all three sides. Be sure to specify the units you used in the calculation so that you do not forget what exactly the values mean.

• When indicating volume units, do not forget to indicate the third power " 3 ". The calculated volume has a numerical expression, but without the correct indication of the units of measurement, your calculations will be meaningless. To correctly reflect the units of measurement of volume, they must be specified cubed. For example, if all sides were measured in centimeters, then the volume units would be specified as "cm3".

• Task example:"If a box is 2m long, 1m wide, and 3m high, what is its volume?"
• V = L x W x H
• V = 2m x 1m x 4m
• V = 8 m 3
• Note: Specifying cubic units of volume allows you to understand how many such cubes can be placed inside the box. If we refer to the previous example, this means that eight cubic meters are placed in a box.

As a result of the calculation, you will find out:

• The total area of the tank;
• Lateral surface area;
• bottom area;
• Free volume;
• The amount of liquid;
• Capacity volume.

Technology for calculating the amount of liquid in tanks of various shapes

When the container has an irregular geometric shape (for example, in the form of a pyramid, parallelepiped, rectangle, etc.), it is necessary first of all to measure the internal linear dimensions and only after that to make calculations.

The calculation of the volume of liquid in a small rectangular container can be manually performed as follows. It is necessary to fill the entire tank with liquid to the brim. Then the volume of water in this case will be equal to the volume of the tank. Next, carefully drain all the water into separate containers. For example, in a special reservoir of the correct geometric shape or a measuring cylinder. On the measuring scale you can visually determine the volume of your tank. To calculate the amount of liquid in a rectangular container, it is best for you to use our online program, which quickly and accurately perform all calculations.

If the tank is large and it is not possible to manually measure the amount of liquid, then the gas mass formula with a known molar mass can be used. For example, the mass of nitrogen is M = 0.028 kg / mol. These calculations are possible when the tank can be closed tightly (hermetically). Now, using a thermometer, we measure the temperature inside the tank, and the internal pressure with a manometer. Temperature must be expressed in Kelvin and pressure in Pascals. The volume of internal gas can be calculated using the following formula (V=(m∙R∙T)/(M∙P)). That is, we multiply the mass of the gas (m) by its temperature (T) and the gas constant (R). Next, the result should be divided into gas pressure (P) and molar mass (M). The volume will be expressed in m³.

How to calculate and find out the volume of an aquarium by size yourself

Aquariums are glass vessels that are filled with clean water to a certain level. Many aquarium owners have repeatedly thought about how large their tank is, how to perform calculations. The easiest and most reliable method is to use a tape measure and measure all the necessary parameters that should be entered into the appropriate cells of our calculator, and you will immediately get the finished result.

However, there is another way to determine the volume of the aquarium, which is a longer process, using a liter jar, gradually filling the entire container to the appropriate level.

The third method for calculating the volume of an aquarium is a special formula. We measure the depth of the tank, height and width in centimeters. For example, we got the following parameters: depth - 50 cm, height - 60 cm and width - 100 cm. According to these dimensions, the volume of the aquarium is calculated by the formula (V = X * Y * H) or 100x50x60 = 3,000,000 cm³. Next, we need to convert the result to liters. To do this, we multiply the finished value by 0.001. From here it follows - 0.001x3000000 centimeters, and we get, the volume of our tank will be 300 liters. We have calculated the total capacity of the tank, then we need to calculate the actual water level.

Each aquarium is filled significantly lower than its actual height, in order to avoid overflow of water, to close the lid, taking into account the screed. For example, when our aquarium is 60 centimeters high, then the glued screeds will be located 3-5 centimeters lower. With our size of 60 centimeters, a little less than 10% of the volume of the container falls on 5 cm ties. From here we can calculate the real volume of 300 liters - 10% = 270 liters.

Important! A few percent should be taken away, taking into account the volume of glasses, the size of the aquarium or any other container, we remove it from the outside (without taking into account the thickness of the glasses).

From here, the volume of our tank will be equal to 260 liters.

Knowing the exact characteristics of the cargo is necessary not only for its proper transportation, but also for storage in warehouses. However, it is not enough just to know how to calculate the total volume of cargo, because it is necessary to be able to calculate and take into account the possibilities of its placement in a vehicle or warehouse, which depend on indicators such as volume and compliance with overall parameters. But about everything in order, and first of all it is advisable to describe the most simple ways how to calculate the total volume of cargo, for which you need to know the length, width and height of each unit. The easiest way is to calculate the total volume of identical cargoes of a cubic shape, because then you can use the standard formula Vo = a3 * n, in which Vo is the total volume of cargo, and - the height, depth and width of each unit (for a cube, these indicators are equal, therefore a is raised to cubic power), and n is the total number of units.

It is completely different to calculate the total volume of goods if we are talking about identical units of any other form. In this case, the formula Vo=(a*b*c)*n will be relevant, where a, b and c are the depth, width and length of each unit, and n is the total number of units intended for storage and / or transportation. Well, the most difficult is the measurement of the total volume of goods with different shapes and numbers of units, although if you understand the calculation algorithm, then it will be quite difficult to see something supernatural in this task. In this case, to facilitate the task, it is necessary first of all to sort the cargo into groups, doing this in such a way that each of them contains only units with the same parameters. After that, appropriate measurements are performed (identification of width, height and depth) and recalculation of the number of units in each individual group.

As for the calculation itself, it is easiest to carry it out according to the following formula: Vo=(a*b*c)*n1+(a*b*c)*n2+...+(a*b*c)*nn, where a, b and c are the height, depth and width of each unit of cargo (calculated separately for groups), n1 is the number of units of the first group, n2 is the number of units of the second group, and nn is the number of units of the last group (individually for each case). By performing these elementary calculations, you can get the total volume of cargo, however, to fill warehouse or vehicle the resulting value will be rather conditional. And even if, according to calculations, the entire cargo fits perfectly into the available area, this does not mean at all that this will be the case in practice, especially when it comes to oversized cargo. So, in situations where there is absolutely no room for stock, it is advisable to calculate separately for each package, taking into account all its parameters.

That is, it will be necessary to calculate the occupancy not by the total volume, but by the height and length of cargo units stacked in a certain way in accordance with the height and width of the existing room or body. In addition, such an indicator as volumetric weight is of great importance, which is calculated for each distinct unit or group separately, and then summed up to obtain an overall indicator. Most often, this is necessary to establish the carrying capacity of a container (container, cargo body, etc.) when loaded. As for the calculations of the volumetric mass of each unit, they are carried out according to the standard scheme by multiplying the volume by the density, and if the latter indicator is difficult to identify, then each place has to be weighed manually using special cargo scales.

Transport characteristics of cargo - a set of properties that determine the conditions of transportation, reloading and storage of goods. The transport characteristics of the cargo include volumetric and mass characteristics, storage modes, physiochemical properties, as well as the composition and features of the packaging.

Volume refers to the main volume-mass characteristics of the cargo, along with linear dimensions and weight. It is especially necessary to pre-calculate the volume of cargo for the organization of small-tonnage cargo, since in this case the volume and linear dimensions are the key transport characteristics.

Calculation of the volume of a standard cargo

If the entire cargo is packed in the same boxes, then the volume of one package can be calculated by multiplying the linear parameters (length, width, height). The total volume of cargo will be equal to the product of the number of packages and the volume of one unit.

According to International System measurements (SI), linear dimensions are measured in meters, and volume - in cubic meters.

120 boxes must be transported, each of which has the following dimensions:

• Length - 0.5m;
• Width - 0.8m;
• Height - 0.4m.

The volume of one package = 0.5 m * 0.8 m * 0.4 m = 0.16 m³.

Total cargo volume = 120 * 0.16 m³ = 19.2 m³.

Calculation of the volume of non-standard cargo

Cargoes that, due to their shape, are not measured by direct linear dimensions, also require a volume calculation to organize transportation. Examples of such cargo are statues, furniture, equipment, etc.

In this case, the volume of each package is calculated separately according to the maximum dimensions - i.e. the size of the widest place (width) is taken, the height is considered from the floor to the highest point, and the length is measured in the direction perpendicular to the width (also in the place where it is maximum).

The volume of a package is obtained by multiplying the length, width and height. Then, the volumes of each package are summed up and the result obtained is multiplied by the tolerance factor required to calculate the total volume of cargo, taking into account the loose fit of non-standard cargoes to each other and the presence of free space between them. This coefficient is determined for each type of cargo and type of transportation by experts (on average it is 1.3).
