Installation of Internet mgts. Operating principle of a GPON router. Advantages of MGTS television services

Changing the settings of the ZTE531B and ZTE831AII modems is carried out through a regular WEB browser (any: Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, Opera, etc.). Using Internet Explorer is preferable. (Mozilla Firefox, for example, may display some menu items incorrectly).
A modem and a computer connected to each other by a USB cable, a LAN cable or via a WiFi interface is a small example local network. Therefore, before accessing the modem menu through a browser, it is necessary for the computer’s operating system to “see” the modem itself as some kind of network device. By default, the modem has an IP address: 192.168.1.1 (with a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0).
WINDOWS
If the modem and computer are connected by a LAN cable, then in the properties of the network card to which the modem is connected, [START CONTROL PANEL NETWORK CONNECTIONS LOCAL NETWORK CONNECTION (right-click) PROPERTIES GENERAL INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) (select with mouse) PROPERTIES]

You must enter: IP address 192.168.1.2 (instead of “2” you can write any number in the range from 2 to 254); subnet mask 255.255.255.0 ; main gateway 192.168.1.1 (the main gateway means the modem itself); preferred DNS server 195.34.31.50 ; alternative DNS server 62.112.106.130.
To connect the modem and computer via the WiFi interface, similar settings must be made in the properties of the wireless network card, as shown

In the case of a connection via a LAN cable, after setting the properties of the network card, you can immediately begin setting up the modem. When working via a wireless interface, additional steps must be taken. The computer must first “see” the WiFi signal generated by the modem through its wireless network card. By default, for a modem with factory settings, the name of the wireless network is: ZXDSL531BII-XXXXXX - where the last six characters vary from modem to modem, and are unique for each of them. The wireless network of your modem is often far from the only wireless network that the computer “sees”. The item [START SETTINGS CONTROL PANEL NETWORK CONNECTIONS WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION (right-click) VIEW AVAILABLE WIRELESS NETWORKS] displays wireless networks located near your computer. In the illustration, the modem network is at the very bottom line.
In most cases, there are two reasons why a computer may not “see” any wireless network: (1) You forgot to physically turn on the wireless adapter on the computer (usually this is done either by a button on the case or by pressing a key combination involving the Fn key) ; (2) the function of managing the WiFi adapter on a computer is carried out not by the utility included in the Windows operating system (the so-called built-in interface "Zero Wireless Configuration"), but by a program provided by the manufacturer of the wireless network adapter built into your computer.
In the list of networks displayed in the window, you need to find the network generated by your modem and click the Connect>> button. After some time, the wireless connection to the modem should be established, and the cross on the wireless connection icon in the lower right corner of the screen should disappear. As a result of double-clicking with the left mouse button on this icon, the CONNECTION STATUS window should appear. If the number of received and transmitted packets does not differ significantly, then the connection is working normally. If the number of received packets is zero, this is a clear sign that the connection is not working correctly. The cause may be either a malfunction of the adapter itself or operating system errors.
When connecting a modem via a USB cable, you must follow certain steps.
Insert the CD that came with the modem into the drive (it contains the necessary drivers). If the startup window appears, close it. Turn on the modem and connect it to the computer with a USB cable. The NEW EQUIPMENT WIZARD should appear>>

Select No, not this time, click Next. IN THE NEXT WINDOW>>

Select Install from a specified location, click Next. IN THE NEXT WINDOW>>

check the box next to Include the following search location, use the Browse button to specify the path to the Drivers directory on the CD, click Next. Wait until the search is finished and in the next WINDOW>>

Click Continue Anyway. Wait for the installation to complete and click Finish>>.

An inscription should appear in the lower right corner that new equipment has been found and that it is READY FOR USE>>

At the same time, in network connections on your computer [START SETTINGS CONTROL PANEL NETWORK CONNECTIONS]

An additional [LAN CONNECTION # so-and-so] should appear. This is a LAN CONNECTION - your modem, which the operating system, with the help of drivers, emulates as a kind of virtual network card. Opening [START SETTINGS CONTROL PANEL NETWORK CONNECTIONS LOCAL NETWORK CONNECTION # such and such (right click) PROPERTIES]

You will see in the [Connect via] item the name of the virtual network card: ZTE ADSL Router USB Remote NDIS Device. The peculiarity of this virtual network card is that it disappears from the NETWORK CONNECTIONS folder as soon as you turn off the modem or disconnect the USB cable connecting the modem and the computer.
Problems often arise when installing a modem as a virtual network card. As a rule, this happens on unlicensed operating systems, or on licensed ones that have accumulated errors due to too much long term operation without reinstallation, infection by viruses, installation/uninstallation of other programs. In this case, the only available option is to connect with a LAN cable via a network card (which, of course, must be pre-installed in the computer).
If you wait a little after installing the modem, a new notification from the operating system should soon appear that the local network connection is LIMITED OR NOT available>>

In this case, in the properties of the virtual network card [START CONTROL PANEL NETWORK CONNECTIONS LAN CONNECTION # such and such (right-click) PROPERTIES GENERAL INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) (select with the mouse) PROPERTIES] you must enter: IP address 192.168.1.2 (instead of " 2" you can write any number in the range from 2 to 254); subnet mask 255.255.255.0 ; default gateway 192.168.1.1. (by the main gateway we mean the modem itself); preferred DNS server 195.34.31.50 ; alternative DNS server 62.112.106.130 as shown HERE>>

In contrast to the settings for the ZTE831AII modem when connected via a USB connection, where the default gateway address may also look like 192.168.1.1. and as 192.168.100.1. (depending on the behavior of the operating system), when setting IP addresses for the ZTE531B modem, the third position is always 1.
After the small local computer-modem network is configured, you can begin setting up the modem itself. To get to the modem menu, you need to type in the address bar of your browser: http://192.168.1.1/. That is, you need to contact a network device with IP address 192.168.1.1 using the http protocol (the standard protocol for viewing any WEB pages).
ROUTER (OPTION I)
When entering the menu, the modem will require you to enter your login and password. By default, this login is admin, password is admin (Latin letters in lower case). Now you are in the menu, in the Quick Start section>>

You can start setting up right away through the Quick Setup subsection>>

The VPI parameter should be equal to 1, VCI - 50, as shown HERE>>

Click Next and find yourself in the next WINDOW>>

We leave the Type unchanged, that is, LLC/SNAP, and change the Protocol from the “default” parameter, that is, Bridging, to the parameter we need, that is, PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)>>

Click Next and find yourself in the next WINDOW>>

Obtain an IP address automatically. It is necessary to enable the network address translation function, that is, check the box next to Enable NAT, as shown HERE>>

Click Next and find yourself in the next WINDOW>>

The Session established by parameter is left unchanged, that is, Always Online. After the initial connection, among other documents, you should have a blue envelope with your username and password. You must enter your login in the PPP User Name field, and the password from the blue envelope in the PPP Password field. In the illustration, the guest login and PASSWORD have been entered>>

Guest login is MGTS@mgts, guest password is MGTS. Click Next and find yourself in the next WINDOW>>

Here we check the box next to Enable DHCP server on the LAN and get the following WINDOW view>>

Just in case, we increase the Leased Time parameter from 1 to 30 days, as shown HERE>>

Enabling the DHCP server function is very useful. It makes it easier to set up your small local computer-modem network. In the event that in the section [START SETUP CONTROL PANEL NETWORK CONNECTIONS WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION (or LOCAL NETWORK CONNECTION) (right-click) PROPERTIES GENERAL INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) (select with the mouse) PROPERTIES] the parameters are not entered manually, but are left “by default” ", that is, Obtain an IP address automatically and Obtain a DNS server address automatically, your computer will still “see” the modem, since it will receive the necessary addresses from the modem, thanks to the enabled DHCP server function.
Click Next and find yourself in the next WINDOW>>

Here all the settings made are summarized in a single table. For the modem to write them to its FLASH memory, click Finish. As a result, the modem will begin the reboot process, and you will see the following WINDOW for some time>>

Then for a second or two a window with your LOGIN AND PASSWORD should appear>>

After which a window will appear indicating that the session is ESTABLISHED>>

(If the table with the established session does not appear, and you continue to see the previous window with the login and password, then most likely this means that an error was made when entering the login or password.)
So, if you did everything correctly, the modem is now configured in router mode. As confirmation, three indicators on the modem should be lit: Power, DSL and Internet. If the WiFi interface is activated in the modem, the WLAN indicator should also light up. If computers are connected to the modem via a LAN cable or USB cable, the corresponding Ethernet indicators on the modem or the USB indicator should also light up (when the computers are turned on, of course), depending on which ports the computers are connected to.

ROUTER (OPTION II)
There is another option for setting up the modem - through the Advanced>> section

After entering the modem menu, click Advanced at the top, then click LAN on the black background on the left. In the drop-down submenu, click DHCP Server>>

In the Advanced section (as opposed to the Quick Setup section), DHCP Server is configured separately from the Internet connection properties. Before you start setting up the Internet connection itself, it is advisable to enable the DHCP Server function. Check the box next to Enable DHCP server on the LAN and get the following WINDOW view>>

Increasing Leased Time>>

Click Apply>>

At the bottom left, in red letters on a white background, the modem warns that the new settings will take effect only after the modem is rebooted. You don’t have to rush to reboot; the modem will still reboot after setting up the Internet connection.
Now let's start setting up the Internet connection. Click on WAN on the left and get the following WINDOW view>>

Let's start editing the first line br_8_81, to do this, in the Edit column, click on the red pencil and get the following view of the WINDOW>>

Set VPI - 1, VCI - 50, as shown HERE>>

Leave Service Category unchanged (UBR Without PCR), click Next, RECEIVE>>

Change Bridging to PPP over Ethernet (PPPoE)>>

Leave Encapsulation Type unchanged (LLC/SNAP), click Next. NEXT WINDOW>>

slightly different from the similar window in the Quick Setup section. In addition to Enable NAT, a PPP IP extension item has appeared. Why the new item is needed will be described below. While selecting Obtain an IP address automatically, check the box next to Enable NAT>>

and click Next. IN THE NEXT WINDOW>>

just like in Quick Setup, we leave Session established by unchanged (Always Online). In the PPP User Name field we enter the login, and in the PPP Password field - the password from the blue envelope. IN THE ILLUSTRATION>>

Guest login and password are shown. Click Next, we get a new WINDOW>>

We check the entered data, click Apply, RECEIVE>>

Click Finish. We wait until the modem RESTARTS>>

The setup is complete.
A modem configured in router mode uses the network address translation mechanism - NAT. That is, your computer is not assigned an IP address issued by your provider, which you can see in the Internet Connection subsection of the Status>> section (WAN IP Address), but the internal IP address of your small local modem-computer network. There are a number of programs that require that the IP address issued by the provider not be converted by the modem into a local one, but be assigned directly to the computer, otherwise they will not work correctly. One solution to the problem is to configure the modem in Half-bridging mode.
BRIDGING
If in the case of ZTE831AII, when connecting via LAN cable, a small additional customization modem, and when connecting via USB, no changes need to be made in the modem, then the ZTE531B with “firmware” V3.0.0d_B09_OV” when operating in BRIDGING mode requires making the same settings both when connecting via USB and when connecting LAN cable.
Changing the VPI and VCI parameters is possible through the Advanced section, but it is easier to do this through Quick Start while simultaneously enabling DHCP. Go to the Quick Setup subsection>>

We change the VPI parameter to 1, VCI - to 50, as shown HERE>>

Click Next and find yourself in the next WINDOW>>

Encapsulation Type is left unchanged, that is LLC/SNAP, Protocol is left unchanged, that is Bridging, click Next and go to another WINDOW>>

Here we check the box next to Enable DHCP server on the LAN, and then increase the Leased Time parameter from 1 to 30 days, as shown HERE>>

In the next window we get the following TABLE>>

Click Finish.
The modem setup is complete. Now you need to make settings in the operating system.

Having established a connection to the modem via the WiFi interface, as described above, you can go through the Basic Settings>> subsection

in the Wireless section, rename the network. To do this, in the Wireless Network Name (SSID) field, instead of the “default” name (type ZXDSL531BII-XXXXXX), you can enter your name, as, for example, shown HERE>>

In addition, it is possible to indicate the country of operation of the modem.)
Some time after clicking Apply, the computer should "lose" the wireless connection, and the wireless network connection icon in the lower right corner should
a cross will appear. It is necessary again through [START SETTINGS CONTROL PANEL NETWORK CONNECTIONS WIRELESS NETWORK CONNECTION (right click) VIEW AVAILABLE WIRELESS NETWORKS]

find your modem's wireless network (now renamed) and connect to it.
BRIEF SUMMARY
It is necessary to note some features of the different configuration modes. If you need to connect more than one computer to the modem at the same time, then the only valid configuration option is ROUTER mode. However, do not forget that the last digit of the IP address should be different for different computers. That is, if, say, the first computer connected, for example, via a LAN cable in the section [START CONTROL PANEL NETWORK CONNECTIONS LOCAL NETWORK CONNECTION (right-click) PROPERTIES GENERAL INTERNET PROTOCOL (TCP/IP) (select with mouse) PROPERTIES] is assigned an IP address of 192.168 .1.2, then the second computer must be assigned the address 192.168.1.3 (the address is specified in the properties of the corresponding network connection used by this computer to connect to the modem). The last digit of the IP address must be unique for each connected device and must be between 2 and 254.
HALF-BRIDGING mode only works with computers connected via a LAN cable and allows you to connect only one computer to the modem.
BRIDGING mode is the least desirable, since it depends to the greatest extent on the operating system behavior. If errors and defects accumulate in the operating system, this method of connecting to the Internet begins to fail first. Although, if for some purpose you need the provider’s IP address to be assigned to the computer directly and the computer does not have a network card, then this mode turns out to be the only possible option for setting up an Internet connection. BRIDGING and HALF-BRIDGING modes are not possible for connecting a computer and modem via a WiFi interface.

After the consumer purchases Gpon router with MGTS support, he must take care of setting it up. This step will allow you to get the maximum Internet speed, which is 2500 Mbps. Thanks to its excellent characteristics, the router will be able to cover quite large room. This is what allowed such devices to quickly gain popularity among domestic buyers. Moreover, many manufacturers bundle this router with excellent rates for a small fee.

In this article we will look at the principles by which it works WiFi router MGTS Gpon, what features does MGTS technology have? In addition, the issue of setting up the router will be covered, and all possible problems with the network will be described. Finally, let's summarize what has been said.

Router operation

What do experts mean when they say GPON? It refers to an optical network that can provide enormous speed. As a rule, its indicator is clearly in excess, if we talk about the usual home use. Any games and videos with great quality (4K) will need a speed of 100 MB per second. That is why the MGTS router is often used to provide access to the Network large number users. The signal is high quality. Sometimes there may be some problems with the router. A common problem is that you need to create a wireless access point to work with a tablet, laptop, or smartphone at the same time. The main thing is not to forget to set a password on the MGTS WiFi router.

Those routers that are provided by MGTS are popular because of their low speed and multi-user mode. They also support both wired and wireless connections. What other advantages do they have? They can replace the following devices: NAT, GPON type routers, devices with 4 LAN connectors, a Voip gateway, as well as any other device that supports high speed networks. How should ordinary ordinary users understand this? These routers provide a fast home or office network with ease. Most routers support a maximum transfer speed of 300 Mbit per second.

Features of MGTS

The manufacturer MGTS recently began working as a provider that provides Internet services in the territory of Russian Federation. It has been on the market for about 15 years. Only in 2013, the company created a project to form a fiber optic network. The provider is able to provide excellent rates for a small fee. The minimum of them provides a connection speed of 30 Mbit per second, and the maximum - 200 Mbit/s. The IP address of the MGTS router is generated during network setup.

Moreover, MGTS presents itself as a monopoly. It provides not only Internet services, but also telephone and regular communications. Subscribers working in the described network can receive digital television for 200 or more channels. After the ISP increased the standard data transfer speed, users slowly migrated from an ADSL router to GPON.

Setting up the MGTS router

After the client enters into a contract with MGTS, he will immediately receive the special router discussed in the article for use. Such a device is already configured, has all the necessary data, so the only thing left is the owner needs to connect to it using gadgets and other equipment.

It is possible that sometimes there is a need to reset the settings. What to do? Many people prefer to entrust this task to experienced specialists, but you can try to do the setup yourself.

Wireless networks

Before you start setting up the MGTS router, namely the wireless connection, you need to check the functionality of DHCP. How to do this and how to configure it? There shouldn't be any difficulties. All necessary data must be specified in the control panel in the main parameters tab. Why do you need to do this? If the specified server operates correctly, you can easily distribute network addresses to all connected devices.

Now you can start setting up wireless point access. You should go to the control panel, to “Basic Settings”. There the user will see the “Wireless network” column. You need to turn it on. This is done by checking the box next to the item of the same name. The SSID name is required. Where can I find it? The MGTS router has a factory sticker containing this information. There is no need to change any other settings.

Security and Wireless Connectivity

If you do not set a security password on your wireless network, then strangers or even intruders will be able to connect to it. That is why when making settings you need to take care this nuance. The combination of characters must be secret. What are the dangers of connecting third-party users? The speed will decrease and personal data will be at risk. What is needed to set a password? You need to go to the “Security” tab, specify a name for the access point, and indicate the secret combination in a special column. There is no need to set other parameters, since the network will work without any problems. After this, you just need to save the settings specified for a device such as the MGTS router and exit the control panel.

Many people ask the question: “Which data encryption method should I use?” The most optimal is WPA2-PSK. This technology will reliably “protect” the connection. The password must be complex and memorable. It is best if it consists of lowercase and uppercase characters, as well as numbers. It is necessary to exclude easy combinations such as date of birth, pet name and the usual dialing 123456.

Problems

If any problems arise when working with a ZTE router or any other, access to the network is prohibited, and you cannot fix the problem yourself, then you should immediately contact service center manufacturer or at least provider. Sometimes problems are in no way dependent on the users, and can also appear due to incorrect interaction. Although it should be noted that when using MGTS technology with GPON type routers, the number of problems encountered has significantly decreased. At the same time, setting up the equipment has become much easier than it was before.

Results

As you can understand after reading the article, setting up a ZTE router and others is quite simple and not complicated. It should be noted that it practically does not depend on one or another model. The maximum difference between them is the control panel interface, as well as the manufacturer’s logo. In fact, most owners won't even need to do port forwarding. It will be necessary when using any specific applications, for example, games and so on. In order to fully configure a device such as an MGTS router, it will not take more than 20 minutes.
