How to install a rear view camera. How to connect a rear view camera to a car: detailed instructions and tips. Connecting a parking camera

27.01.2017

In the bustle of the city, a huge flow of cars and people, mirrors are not always effective enough and there is a need to install a rear view camera. This device allows you to increase the visibility for the driver, thereby preventing possible problems on the road. You can install the camera yourself, saving money. Installing the camera will not be difficult.

Choosing a camera

Everything will depend on personal preferences and capabilities. Do you want an expensive camera from a well-known brand or is a mid-range device more suitable for you? Most importantly, be sure to take a warranty receipt, which will indicate a guarantee for at least a year. Of course, expensive does not mean the best, however, if possible, try to choose models that are not too cheap so that you feel more comfortable using a high-quality unit.

There are several types of cameras, namely two:

Wired device type

Wireless device type via Wi Fi

So, a wireless camera is easier to install, which means fewer wires - fewer problems, however, this type of camera is not always compatible with a radio, so it is better to consult a specialist on this issue.

Functionality necessary for comfortable use of the device:

Switching between color and black and white shooting modes

Image quality at night - matrix sensitivity

View up to 180 degrees

Lens protection

Water protection

Markings for easy parking

Choosing a location for installation

When choosing a location for installation, pay attention to the following points:

Is it susceptible to contamination?

How visible is your device from the side?

Is the shooting angle correct?

Is it convenient to care for the device: wash, wipe?

Some drivers install a camera in place of the rear license plate light bulb, and this is a very good option. It happens that the car already has a place for the camera. If the car is a truck, an acceptable option is the roof of the car. True, in this case it will not be very convenient to care for her.

When installed correctly, your device will cover inspection areas that mirrors cannot, which is undoubtedly very good for safety.

Installing the camera step by step

When you mount your camera yourself, it usually involves the following simple steps:

First you need to prepare the installation site

Then, mount the device in the prepared place

Connecting the camera to the reversing lamp

Connecting to a Monitor

Minor difficulties may arise with the wires. But they are usually carefully removed for a more aesthetic appearance.

How to install a camera in place of the license plate light

Some car models require the installation of a camera in place of the lamp, which illuminates the license plate. Then you need to proceed as follows:

Remove the rear door trim

Unscrew the screws from the handle

Detach the piston trim

Remove the rear door connectors

Detach the trim on the rear door to mount the camera

Remove the license plate lamp

Mount your device there

Connect lighting elements with dimensions

Replace the outer trim

Connect the minus to the trunk lid

Connect the power wires to the reverse lamp

Increase the length of the wire going to the monitor by placing it in a corrugation with the rest of the wires

How to install a camera on a lighting panel

You can also place your camera below a light bulb. But this is very inconvenient and not aesthetically pleasing, since then the camera will be very noticeable against the background of the license plate. It is better to fix it on a plate with lighting lamps.

To do this, do the following:

Empty the trunk of its contents

Remove the license plate

If necessary, increase the length of the camera bracket

Make a hole for the lens

Route the camera wires through the trunk

Separate left side trunk trim and sill trim

Connect all wires following the instructions for the device

Connect the "plus" to the rear left headlight to provide power to the camera

Fasten the wires in the right place

Check the operation of the device. To do this, turn it back. If an image appears on the monitor, your camera is connected correctly.

Install all car parts into place

Installing the camera in place of the trunk lock

You can install your camera in the trunk lock location, provided that the shape of the camera allows it: the device itself is small, has a thread and looks like a door peephole.

Then proceed like this:

Install an electric lock

Remove the trunk lock

Install the camera by inserting it into the hole

Connect the wires

Test the operation of your device and adjust

Secure with a nut

This camera location has a number of advantages: it is less susceptible to contamination, almost invisible, and has a good viewing angle.

By installing the camera yourself, you will undoubtedly save your money, which is very nice. Also, the rear view camera justifies the money spent on its purchase by your comfort and greater safety of movement in any environmental conditions.

The authorities of Novosibirsk posted an application for the purchase of two Toyota Camry cars on the government procurement website.

The total cost of the cars should not exceed 5 million rubles. Thus, 2.5 million rubles will be allocated for the purchase of each car. The customer will be the economic department of the Novosibirsk City Hall.

Cars must be no older than 2019, painted black and equipped with an automatic transmission. In addition, each car should have additional driver assistance functions, which include: a rain sensor, a collision avoidance function, an advanced multimedia system, and so on.

According to customers, finding such machines will not be as difficult as it might seem. So, at the end of 2018, the necessary cars were purchased in three days. The city authorities annually update and replenish the fleet of vehicles, purchasing the necessary vehicles, which are subsequently used for the needs of the mayor’s office.

Russian enthusiasts showed on the Internet pictures of an unusual tuning of the domestic UAZ Hunter SUV, equipping it with a premium body kit to make the car stand out among other cars.

Motorists were delighted with the unique project and noted that they would like the production models to become the same.

After tuning, the UAZ Hunter acquired a body with a glossy black paint, as well as an unusual body kit that makes it look like its foreign counterparts. Motorists immediately compared the Russian model with the legendary Gelendvagen. The car received a black, powerful, reinforced bumper, the hood was stamped, and the windows were tinted.

Allows you to avoid various troubles when moving backwards, prevent accidents, and simplifies control when reversing. When reverse gear is engaged, the monitor lights up, showing what is behind the car. The visibility of the camera is higher than that of the rear view mirror.

Installing a rear view camera yourself is not so difficult and will help you save money. U different models there are differences, but small.

Which model should you choose?

When purchasing devices, each driver proceeds from his own preferences. Some people overpay for a brand to be sure of quality, others, saving money, use the offers of Chinese online stores.

You shouldn’t save too much, because a high-quality product will last longer, be more functional, with more good review and an image that will be more convenient and practical for you. It is advisable that the seller provide a warranty of at least a year.

Please note that there are models created specifically for certain car brands, which take into account the features of these particular cars.

There are two types of devices:

  1. Video signals are transmitted via wires;
  2. Video signals are transmitted wirelessly, using a transmitter and receiver using Wi-Fi.

The second type is easier to install and connect, because no wiring is required. However, wireless models do not work with some types of radios, so before purchasing and trying to install a rear view camera on a car, carefully read the instructions and consult with a specialist to see if it is suitable for your vehicle.

Main characteristics necessary for convenient control:

  • the possibility of both black and white and color shooting, the presence of a switching mode;
  • sensitivity level, ;
  • viewing angle (120–180 degrees);
  • video resolution;
  • presence of lens protection;
  • waterproof;
  • availability of parking markings (color marks of video shooting areas).

Installation location

When choosing an installation location, the following factors are taken into account:

  • how polluted the place is;
  • is the device visible there (to protect against theft and vandalism);
  • aesthetic location;
  • ease of cleaning and wiping;
  • video angle.

You should choose the most optimal video angle

It is convenient to mount the camera in place of the lampshade. Some manufacturers provide space for a camera next to the lampshades. On trucks, it is possible to mount the device on the roof, where it is protected from dirt, but wiping it will not be so convenient.

To increase the stealth of cameras, special brackets are made.

The tilt of the device should facilitate a wider view than through a mirror, and accessibility to places that fall out of the mirror image. But try to mount it so that the objects on the monitor look natural without distortion.

Basic installation steps

Mounting devices yourself usually involves the following steps:

  • preparation of the installation site;
  • installation of the car camera itself;
  • connection to the reversing lamp;
  • connection to the monitor.

The main difficulty is usually the installation of wires so that they become invisible.

Installing a camera instead of a license plate light

On some models, like the Kia Cee’d (hatchback, station wagon), you can install a rear view camera in place of the lamp that illuminates the license plate. The order of work will be as follows:

  • Remove the rear door trim by unscrewing the fasteners near the hanging leather handle.
  • Unscrew the screws in the handles.
  • Remove the trim from the pistons.
  • Separate the connectors located on the rear door.
  • Remove the rear door trim where you will mount the camera.
  • Remove the license plate lamp.
  • Place the camera in this place.
  • Connect the backlight to the side light circuit.
  • Reinstall the outer trim.
  • Connect the negative wire to the trunk lid.
  • Extend the power wires and connect them to the reverse lamp.
  • Extend the cable leading to the monitor by placing it in a corrugated area with other wires running through the ceiling.

Mounting on lighting strip

You can strengthen the camera without removing the lampshade below it. However, then it will stand out against the background of the license plate and become noticeable from the outside. In order not to make unnecessary holes in the bumper, it is better to attach it to a bar with lighting lamps.

  • Empty the trunk.
  • Remove the frame with .
  • Extend the camera leg if necessary. This can be done using a steel plate about 3x5 cm.
  • Drill a hole for the lens.
  • Route the wiring into the luggage compartment through the plug located in the area of the rear bumper or spare wheel.
  • Remove the left part of the trunk trim, the decorative trim of the trunk sill, under which there are the radio wires (the device for displaying the image on the monitor is connected to them).
  • Provide access to the radio connectors; connect the wires to the connectors according to the instructions included with the device.
  • To provide power to the camera, draw a “plus” to the rear left headlight. You can make the connection in the area of the torpedo.
  • Lay out the wiring using clips and fastening elements.
  • Test the functionality of the device: it should turn on automatically when reverse gear is engaged. If a picture appears on the monitor, it means you have made the connection correctly.
  • Return the machine elements to their place.

Reinstalling the trunk lock

The decision where to install a rear view camera on a car depends largely on the design of the device itself. If the model resembles a door peephole and has a thread, then it is possible to install it in place of the luggage lock.

  • Install an electric lock.
  • Remove.
  • Insert the camera, widening the hole with a drill if necessary, then primer.
  • Mount the wiring and connect.
  • Check the camera's operation. Adjust the image by pulling the camera out to the desired distance or screwing it back.
  • Secure the camera with a nut.

With this arrangement, the device is less noticeable, gets less dirty compared to the location on the bumper, and gives a good overview.

By installing a rear view camera yourself, you will save money and gain experience that will certainly be useful to you. Don’t skimp on this option; it’s better to spend money on a camera than to pay for car repairs later; the purchase will cost much less.

Installing a camera is a reasonable measure to prevent troubles, and if you install it yourself, it is not so expensive. Your driving will become comfortable, convenient and safe.

Parking in the city is not an easy task. It is very difficult to take an empty parking space without accidentally hitting someone else's car. The situation is complicated by the fact that car designers have recently been paying a lot of attention to design, often sacrificing such a “trifle” as visibility. To avoid feeling like you're driving passenger car as a tank driver, you have to take action. One of the solutions that makes maneuvering easier is a rear view parking camera. We'll tell you how to connect it to the radio below.

What are parking cameras?

As a rule, driving in reverse causes difficulties for drivers, because any car certainly has a “dead zone” behind the trunk, where, no matter how you turn your head, you won’t see anything.

The driver, thanks to the high, long hood and low bumper, sometimes cannot see anything right in front of his nose, which is very unpleasant when he has to park end-to-end or with the front overhang over the curb.

In both cases, a parking camera will help out. Are there differences between rear and front view devices?

By the way, the word “chauffeur” is of French origin. This was the name given to locomotive stokers at first, and then to car drivers. Why? The fact is that the first cars used a steam engine, which from time to time had to be “fed” with a portion of firewood or coal in front of “all honest people.” What else can you call someone who pokes around with a poker in the firebox?

Differences between rear and front cameras

Both have almost the same properties and characteristics. However, the rear-mounted camera must “be able” to send the image to the monitor in an inverted mirror format. This makes it more convenient for the driver sitting with his back in the direction of travel.

If the camera is looking forward, this ability is redundant. Otherwise, both devices are identical. Moreover, for some cameras, mirroring is one of the setup options. Such devices can be installed both behind and in front.

Features and characteristics of car parking cameras

When choosing a parking camera, consider the following features:

  • design (design) of the camera,
  • video standard,
  • display format (mirror or regular),
  • way to connect to the monitor,
  • viewing angle,
  • photosensitivity,
  • infrared illumination,
  • dynamic marking.

Design and video signal standard

The design determines possible areas for placing devices. The design of a standard camera involves installing it either in place of some element, for example, a backlight registration number, or to the location recommended by the manufacturer. To install such a camera, there is no need to drill additional holes, but it is not always possible to find a product for a specific car model on sale.

For an embedded rear view camera, a hole is drilled in the bumper or other part. The camera is fixed in it with a latch or lock nut.

The universal camera can be installed on any accessible surface thanks to the presence of a special mount. Its position is fixed with double-sided tape or screws.

A type of universal one is a camera built into the frame of the registration number.

Car cameras support one or more common television signal standards: PAL, NTSC, SECAM. In terms of picture quality, they are all almost identical. But the monitor will not be able to display the signal if it does not support the camera standard.

Table: advantages and disadvantages of rear view parking cameras

Methods for connecting to a monitor

To transfer an image from a conventional wired camera to a monitor, a video cable must be laid inside the car. This is a reliable connection method, but you will have to work hard when laying the cable.

Wireless cameras transmit images using a radio signal, which greatly facilitates installation.

Often they are ordinary wired devices, but supplemented with external receiver and transmitter units. These units - they are called a transmitter and a receiver - are also sold separately from the camera.

The video signal is usually transmitted in the FM or Wi-Fi range. In the latter case, two options are possible: using the frequency of the range to transmit an analog signal or full support digital network. When a working transmitter is visible in the list of available wireless networks of the smartphone, the phone can be used as a monitor for a parking camera, as well as any mobile device: Android tablet or radio.

Light sensitivity and infrared illumination

Light sensitivity characterizes the minimum illumination at which the camera is able to perform its functions. The parameter value, depending on the type of matrix, is 0.01–1 lux.

Its practical value is low. The camera, as a rule, does not work in complete darkness, since the reverse light comes on when the gear is engaged, providing more illumination than is necessary for the “dumbest” camera. A “pleasant bonus” is infrared illumination, which will be needed if the flashlight malfunctions.

Viewing angle and dynamic marking

The wider the viewing angle, the more space the camera captures, the more informative the image on the monitor. But at the same time distortions increase. In practice, the optimal values are 120–170 o. Cameras with a field of view of less than 110° are not very common.

Dynamic marking makes it much easier to estimate the distance to an obstacle. It represents longitudinal and transverse lines that the camera superimposes on the image.

National Directorate for road safety USA (NHTSA) announced that from May 1, 2018, all new cars with a curb weight of up to 4.5 tons sold in the States must mandatory be equipped with rear view cameras.

Connecting a parking camera

The connection method depends on both the camera itself and the device to which it needs to be connected.

Parking camera monitor

The following devices can be used to display the signal coming from the rear (front) camera:

  • radio,
  • car TV,
  • DVR,
  • navigator,
  • separate monitor,
  • rear view mirror with built-in monitor,
  • tablet, smartphone and other mobile gadgets.

Video: monitor for rear view camera

The main condition for connecting a wired camera is the presence of a video input in the device selected as a monitor. Its usual appearance is an ordinary “tulip”. But often it is “hidden” in a multi-pin connector, the wiring of which can be found in the technical documentation.

In addition to the video input, car devices that support connecting a rear view camera are usually equipped with a signal (control) input, to which a 12 V voltage is supplied to activate the monitor simultaneously with turning on the camera.

Smartphones, tablets and other gadgets with an operating system do not always have a video input. In this case, you can use a video capture card that is connected to the USB port.

Video: connecting a wired camera to a tablet or smartphone

For wireless connection through Wi-Fi networks Both the camera and the monitor device must support them.

Monitor installation location

When a radio or rear view mirror monitor is used as a monitor, you do not have to choose a location; it is determined by the design of the car.

Where to install stand-alone display devices depends on their size, design, and owner preference. Most popular places:

Rear view camera connection diagrams

Present on the market huge amount both parking cameras and devices that can be used as a monitor. Practical connection diagrams depend on the characteristics of the products and may therefore differ from those given below.

Wired connection

Car monitors for connecting a rear view camera are equipped with one or more video inputs that are switched manually.

The figure shows a diagram of connecting a wired video camera to a separate monitor without a signal input.

A typical diagram for connecting a wired camera to a monitor built into the rear view mirror with a signal input is shown in the figure below.

The camera is supplied with 12 V voltage from the reversing lamp. Signal wire P3 is also connected to it. The camera output is connected to the video input, wire P3 is connected to a similar wire (connector) of the monitor.

Using the same scheme, any display devices with a signal input are connected: radios, navigators, recorders.

Wireless connection

Wireless receivers and transmitters usually do not have a signal wire. This does not prevent them from being used to transfer images to a separate monitor or other device without a signal input.

When using such kits to connect the camera to a radio, navigator and other devices with a signal input, you have to lay an additional wire from the reversing light or use the electrical diagram to look for another accessible connection location located closer to the radio.

One of possible options control - a switch connected to the power supply positive, with the help of which the signal is forcibly supplied.

Force the camera to turn on

Sometimes the driver needs to turn on the parking camera without engaging reverse gear. This algorithm is implemented by supplying power to the camera not through the reversing light, but directly using a button or toggle switch.

Usually, this eliminates the possibility of turning on the camera at the same time as reversing. But if you connect the button and the flashlight via decoupling diodes, both functions can be used in parallel.

Connecting a camera with a Wi-Fi module

The Wi-Fi module allows you to transfer images from the rear or front camera to any device with the Android or iOS operating system. In this case, you will need to download the appropriate application to your tablet or smartphone.

Connecting two parking cameras

Sometimes drivers equip their cars with two cameras at once: rear and front view. There are several possibilities for this:

How to install a wired camera and connect it to a car radio

To equip your car with a wired rear-view parking camera, you will need the following materials and tools:

  • set of keys,
  • screwdrivers,
  • panel puller,
  • insulating tape,
  • plastic clamps for fastening wires,
  • wires and connectors,
  • drill with drill bit,

Sequence of work

  1. Disconnect the negative terminal (housing) from the battery.
  2. Determine the installation location of the camera based on the criteria of maximum visibility of the space behind the car and the secrecy of the device from prying eyes.
  3. Think about how to lay the wire from the reversing light and the video cable to the radio to the selected location for mounting the camera. If possible, choose the places where the wires are connected in the connectors, avoiding splices. Determine the routing route close to the remaining on-board wiring harnesses, focusing on minimal labor costs for dismantling and restoring the interior trim and trunk.
  4. Lay the video cable and wires along the intended route, without securing or laying them under the casing.
  5. Clear access to the radio and rear light connectors.
  6. Collect electrical diagram connecting the camera to the radio.
  7. Connect the battery, check the functionality of the circuit by seeing the image from the camera on the monitor. Eliminate deficiencies that interfere with normal operation. Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
  8. If necessary, drill a hole and install the camera.
  9. Loosen the fasteners or completely remove the casing elements that interfere with the routing of wires.
  10. Place the wires under the casing.
  11. Restore circuit connections that were broken during wiring.
  12. Check the functionality of the camera using the picture on the monitor without fixing the wires and casing.
  13. If there are no defects, disconnect the battery from the body, secure the wires and restore the casing.

Checking and setting up a parking camera

  1. Turn on the power and reverse gear. A mirror image of objects behind the car and dynamic marking lines should appear on the monitor screen.
  2. If there is no picture, check the reliability of the contacts and the condition of the wires. Special attention Pay attention to the quality of crimping of connector pins and other connections.
  3. Check whether the picture turns on and off depending on the position of the gear shift lever.
  4. If there is no mirroring or markings, read the manufacturer's instructions and enable the options.
  5. Rate the picture. If necessary, adjust the position of the camera, direct it so that the monitor displays the entire area necessary for safe maneuvering.
  6. Remember or ask an assistant to mark the position of the dynamic marking lines on the ground.
  7. Measure and record the actual distance from the car to the markings, which will be useful in the future during the operation of the car.

Video: installing a rear view camera

A rear view camera is a useful addition to the car's standard equipment. A small device helps you avoid big troubles. Installing a camera with your own hands is not difficult, and the benefits are obvious.

The attitude of motorists towards devices that allow them to control the space behind the rear bumper of a car is ambiguous. Some drivers believe that car gadgets are unnecessary “bells and whistles” that bring absolutely no benefit. Others cannot imagine their favorite car without a bunch of modern electronics. We can continue this pointless debate for a long time, but we cannot but agree that installing a rear view camera will make life much easier for both an experienced driver and a novice car owner. This device, unlike parking sensors, allows you to avoid such troubles as running into an open hatch or colliding with thin posts, which are sometimes installed in parking spaces as fences. The recommendations in this article will tell you how to connect a rear view camera without the help of a service station.

Selection criteria

The criteria for choosing a device directly depend on the functions that will be assigned to it in the future. Despite the fact that budget cameras cope with their tasks quite well and mostly have high resolution, more expensive devices have a number of undeniable advantages.

  • Shooting sensitivity. The higher the value of this parameter, the better camera Works in low light conditions. Some manufacturers produce devices that operate exclusively in black and white (sepia) mode for comfortable driving at night. This type of camera allows you to more confidently perform reverse maneuvers in dark time days.
  • Viewing angle size. Budget cameras often have a minimum permissible viewing angle of 120°. In more advanced gadgets, this value increases to 180°, which allows the driver to control a much larger area. However, there is also negative point great overview– the so-called “panorama effect”, in which the ordinary perception of the picture may be slightly distorted.
  • Mounting type. There are two types of cameras:
    • Regular ones. Available for certain car models, which allows you to install them with minimal costs time without the need to drill additional holes. Most often, standard devices are installed in the license plate light or in the handle for opening the trunk.
    • Universal. Suitable for installation on any make of car. Installation of some models of such devices may involve the use of through fasteners.

Both standard and universal cameras are equipped with a video output and a power connector.

Installation process

Any work with the electrical wiring of a car requires deliberate action and compliance with safety rules. To prevent the possibility of electric shock, the vehicle's on-board network must be de-energized. To do this, you need to turn off the car's ignition system and remove the terminals from the battery.

To install almost any rearview camera, you need to follow the steps described below.

Finding the attachment point. In most cases, the most efficient solution is to mount the camera above the vehicle registration number frame.

Laying cables throughout the vehicle interior. The majority of car rear view cameras are equipped with a five-meter cable with a standard yellow RCA connector (tulip). The cable length is enough to install the device in any passenger car. When installing the camera in large vehicles (jeeps, minibuses, cargo vehicles), it is impossible to do without an additional extension cable and connector. The camera wiring is first pulled into the trunk compartment, then the wires should be laid along one of the sides of the car (most often on the left) to the radio or monitor. To accomplish this task, you should dismantle the sill trims and, if possible, remove the seats from the interior. You should also ensure easy access to the connectors of the device to which you intend to connect the camera. Once the wires are neatly laid under the interior carpet, you can begin installing the disassembled parts of the car.

Connecting the camera to the electrical wiring and to the car radio. Only a device properly powered from the network will work without interruption long time Therefore, before starting work, it is recommended that you carefully read the device connection diagram included in the kit.

In most cases, for its operation, the camera requires a voltage of 12 V, which can be obtained from the reversing light. The camera's power cable must be connected to the reversing light through a safety device (fuse) that protects the electrical circuit from possible overload and short circuit. The reverse positive wire can also be found in the front instrument panel area. Some cameras already have a built-in fuse. If this device is not included in the package, it must be purchased separately. Next stage– connecting the yellow wire with an RCA connector to the intended output of the multimedia device. If there is no specialized connector for the video signal cable on the radio, the camera is connected to the “video in” output.

Some models of modern rear view cameras have replaced coaxial cable for transmitting video signals with wireless technology. In this case, the receiver installed in the radio is responsible for transmitting the video image to the display, receiving continuous signals from the camera transmitter.

After all connections have been made, each section of the cable connection must be carefully insulated to prevent the possibility of a short circuit. At the final stage, you need to connect the terminals to the battery and check the functionality of the device.

Video

Connecting the rear view camera step by step in the video:

The rear view camera transmits the situation from the rear of the car to the monitor located in the cabin. It makes parking faster and easier, which is very important, especially at night and in big cities. Parking lots in residential areas are overcrowded; most people arrive at night, when almost all the spaces are already occupied. The rear view camera allows you to more accurately make a parking maneuver without damaging your own vehicle. vehicle, nor the neighbor's car.

Advantages and disadvantages of rear view cameras

  1. The viewing angle of the rear view camera is more than one hundred and thirty degrees. This is done specifically so that the car owner has the most complete picture of the situation outside.
  2. The rear view camera gives a mirror image, that is, what the driver sees on the monitor to his left is actually to his left. This helps avoid confusion and the need to adjust to the camera's vision.
  3. Disadvantages include poor visibility at night. There are cameras that allow you to get more high quality image at night, but due to the unnaturalness of the image they are inconvenient to use during the day.
  4. Many drivers do not recognize this accessory and consider it unnecessary. However, a rear view camera can help novice drivers with parking and simply make life easier for experienced drivers.

Which model to choose

When choosing a rear view camera for a car, you need to pay attention to several parameters:

  1. chamber design;
  2. video output method;
  3. the monitor on which the image will be displayed;
  4. parameters of the camera's optical system.

Design directly affects appearance car. Installing the camera behind the rear window will not provide the desired view, so you need to mount it from the outside, focusing on the bumper. According to their design, cameras can be standard, mortise, universal, or built into the license plate frame.

It is most convenient to use a camera that is least noticeable to others. A standard camera is placed in the place where the sign is illuminated or in a special hole for it. The mortise camera is installed directly into the car bumper. To install it, you will need to make a hole in this part.

The universal camera can be installed on any suitable surface. You can secure it with tape or screws. It is very noticeable; for mounting you will need to make holes in the case. A rear view camera in a license plate frame can be installed on almost any car model. Unfortunately, it is very easy to steal.

The camera should display the image on a device convenient for the driver. This could be a car navigator, a car device screen, or a separate monitor mounted on the dashboard. The device must be compatible with the camera.

There can be two ways to connect the camera and monitor. The first is wired, the second is wireless.

  • The first method is carried out via cable. One of the advantages is that this method does not depend on the quality of communication. The difficulty lies in the need to run the cable through the entire cabin.
  • The wireless method is carried out using radio waves. With this method, the equipment is much easier to install, however, radio waves may transmit an image with interference. In addition, such a signal only works at a distance of no further than fifteen meters.

Most wireless cameras are just regular cameras with a radio module attached. The video signal is transmitted either using an FM connection or a WiFi connection. The first method is suitable for output to car navigators, the second for output to a tablet or smartphone. In the second case, you need to install a special application on the output device.

Where should you install a rear view camera on a car?

Before installing the camera, you need to decide where to install the rear view camera on the car. There are several installation methods.

  • Installing a camera instead of a license plate light. Many cameras are equipped with equipment that allows the license plate to remain illuminated when the camera is installed in this way. The device is quite common, finding equipment for it will not be difficult.
  • Reinstalling the trunk lock. Cameras equipped with an oval body are suitable for this. For reliability, you can secure the device with sealant from the inside.
  • Mounting on lighting strip.

Optional rear view camera equipment

The most important problem is camera contamination in autumn and spring weather. Therefore, manufacturers have taken care of such an important accessory as a washer.

Protective screen for rear view camera. If the camera is in place of the license plate light, then the latter may cause the image to be overexposed. As a result, visibility decreases. The solution may be to replace conventional lamps with LEDs or a camera protective screen.

How to install a rear view camera on a car

It is necessary to be very careful and meticulous in laying the wires. The presence of a rear view image depends on them. Each connection must be insulated. To prevent the wires from dangling around the cabin, they can be wrapped in electrical tape and secured with zip ties or technical holes. Even a beginner can install a rear view camera on a car. The main difficulty is connecting it. You must strictly follow the manufacturer's instructions, without deviating from it even one step.

In order for the system to function normally, you need to use a two-wire wire. To connect to the monitor, you can use so-called tulips. The cores can be lengthened or cut in order to stretch in difficult places. Sometimes an additional excitation wire comes out for high-quality work. It is needed to activate the radio screen with additional current. After this, the system begins to broadcast the image. This wire is not a mandatory attribute of any system.

The power supply of the camera must be connected to the power supply of the reversing light. Voltage appears in it only after the driver engages reverse gear. The excitation wire is connected to the output of the radio.

The camera can also transmit images wirelessly. In order to obtain an image using waves, you need to install a special module. It connects to the reverse lamp. Another such module is connected to the monitor.
