Employees of the Servolux company are impressed by the news about the detention of General Director Evgeniy Baskin. They say that someone liked the assets of the joint-stock company, so they decided to imprison the manager. Meanwhile, older generation workers recall that Baskin’s privatization of the poultry farm in the village of Mezhisetki near Mogilev was similar to the takeover of the enterprise. They first brought it to bankruptcy, they say, and then leased it to a young businessman, reports.

The village of Mezhisetki is located two dozen kilometers from Mogilev. From the highway you can see the buildings of the poultry farm. There is less than two kilometers of asphalted road to it. Next to the road is a well-kept village of three-story houses.

On the administrative building there is an inscription: “Servoluxagro”. The enterprise itself is in hustle and bustle.

End of the working day. Those who live in Mogilev rush to catch service buses that will take them to the city. Paselkov residents and residents of adjacent villages, some by car, some on bicycles, or on foot, get to their homes.

“It cannot be that such a competent man, the head, was detained,”- a poultry farm worker reacts with disbelief to the news of Baskin’s arrest.

“I don’t know him closely, but he is still an entrepreneur, as they say. The factory is working. The plan is being carried out - the interlocutor argues in confusion. - Servolux is such a big enterprise. How much money was invested in it? The factory has grown before our eyes. Our salaries are paid regularly and on time. That comes out to five million, which is very good in these days, but you really have to work for it. What will happen to the factory now?”

The man, without saying goodbye, walked thoughtfully towards the house. The next interlocutor is a young man who has been working at the factory for more than five years. He says he is happy with everything. I read about Baskin’s arrest on the Internet.

“I didn’t believe it, because what is the point of such a detention? I don't understand this, and I'm surprised by this turn of events. Apparently he spent a long time developing organs. “Servolux” is a big company and everything will depend on how the authorities blow the case out of proportion or, on the contrary, cover it up,” - notes a poultry farm worker.

“Salaries at the factory are higher than in Mogilev,” the interlocutor adds after thinking. - In the city, four million is already good, but here we earn from five. Almost everyone who lives in this village works at the factory. The village lives thanks to her. Previously, only locals worked at the factory, but now a lot of people come from Mogilev. Transport is provided for them. There are more Mogilev residents after Servolux bought the factory.”

“I learned about twenty minutes ago about Baskin’s arrest. Shocked by the news. Apparently the authorities decided to slowly squeeze people they don’t need out of business,” Another employee of the company expresses his opinion.

The news of Baskin’s detention, the interlocutor noted, made him think about the future of the enterprise.

“Almost the entire population works in the factory. Buses from the city bring citizens. What will happen now? Changes don’t bring us anything good,” said the poultry farm worker.

The next interlocutor, who worked at the factory for two decades, commented on the detention of the general director of Servolux:

“I worked in a factory and saw how it was driven to bankruptcy. Then everyone wondered what was happening. They were not allowed to bring feed for the chickens. They're dead. And when they gave the factory to this Baskin, everything was restored. The factory started working. Started to develop. I believe she has been captured."

According to the interlocutor, in order to earn money, workers do not straighten their backs at the enterprise. Claims that some of the payments have recently been withdrawn. The interlocutor does not care about the future of the enterprise. “They will find a new leader,” - he declares.

Evgeniy Baskin rented the Mogilev broiler poultry farm in 2002. In 2006 it was privatized with permission Alexandra Lukashenko. The factory in Mezhisetki produces poultry meat under the Petrukha brand.

Baskin was detained on March 14 by KGB officers. Chairman of the State Security Committee of Belarus Valery Vakulchik confirmed the detention of the owner of the Servolux group of companies and a number of top managers of the company.

A total of 15 people were detained. These are officials of CJSC Servolux and Ekomol Agro. As follows from the explanations of the KGB chairman, the detainees created a group that was engaged in theft of money. The damage from the group’s activities, according to Valery Vakulchik, amounts to at least 370 billion rubles.

The Servolux group of companies owns a third of the Belarusian poultry meat production market.

Evgeniy Semenovich, you headed JSC Petersburg Roads for many years. What prompted the decision to create a new organization?

Evgeny Baskin:

Indeed, a lot of effort was devoted to “Petersburg Roads”. In 2005, my partner and I created this organization and successfully developed it. However, there comes a moment when it comes to the understanding that each manager has his own strategic vision of management and it is necessary to either accept someone else’s leadership model, or split up and implement his own vision of management. We have chosen this path so that in the future we can remain partners and continue to exist in friendship and harmony. The reorganization took place throughout the year. In order not to cut the bullet, so to speak, and not to split the company, I invited my partner to remain in the previous organization, while I myself headed the new structure.

- What goals and objectives do you set for the new company?

Evgeny Baskin:
- Our main goal is development, successful work, name, authority in the market of design services. And the tasks are practically the same as those carried out by “Petersburg Roads”. Design of roads, bridges, artificial structures, transport interchanges, light rail lines. We have extensive experience in designing main roads and streets of increased complexity, extracurricular bridges, and complex transport hubs. We are interested in creative work related to the adoption of non-standard, ingenious engineering solutions.

Fewer roads and transport structures are being built in the city, and competition in the design market is increasing. In this regard, I wonder what competitive advantages you have?

Evgeny Baskin:
- First of all, we expect that we will be strong in our personnel composition, which is decisive for a design organization. I myself worked at Lengiprotrans from 1963 to 1996. He started as a very young engineer and ended up as a chief project engineer. In 1996, the director of the Stroyproekt Institute, Alexey Aleksandrovich Zhurbin, invited me to his institute as a chief specialist. Then I worked as Deputy General Director until 2005, when my partner and I created the Petersburg Roads company. I have experience, I have knowledge, I have a name - I invest all this in the capital of the new organization. Together with me, specialists with whom we successfully worked in the previous company expressed their desire to start a new business. So, Lyudmila Vladimirovna Svanidze, vice president for design, became my main assistant in the new company. For many years she has led very complex projects, her experience and knowledge allow us to take on the design of the most critical roads and bridges. In addition, today Alexey Sergeevich Shtokman, a young but very experienced chief engineer of the project, works as the head of the design department for artificial structures. He carries out the design of bridges and other complex artificial structures. The team under his leadership was one of the first in the city to master the advanced bridge design program MIDAS, which allows for truly unique calculations of bridge structures with the highest accuracy. We have licensed software installed and constantly receive updates and technical support. We understand that today a company cannot remain competitive without new technologies.

- I would also like to note that we have many young specialists working today. Promising young engineers strive to gain the invaluable experience that we, the representatives of the old school, have. The best way to characterize any specialist is his work. What are the most interesting projects you have taken part in?

Evgeny Baskin:
- During my long professional career, I took part in the implementation of many large projects of transport facilities in St. Petersburg. One of the most interesting was the design of the overpass on Slavy Avenue, where temperature-continuous systems were first used - this, without exaggeration, then became a new word in bridge construction. Prefabricated buildings were transformed into frame structures, which helped to increase the strength characteristics of the overpass. There was a lot of serious research work involved in developing the project. A lot depended on the accuracy of the calculations.
Already at the Stroyproekt Institute, I took part in the design of the first cable-stayed bridge in St. Petersburg across the Neva River, and participated in the reconstruction of the Alexander Nevsky Bridge. While working at St. Petersburg Roads, I remember the major overhaul of the Ladoga drawbridge across the Neva River in the village of Maryino, which was carried out with a complete replacement of the hydraulic bridge drawdown mechanism.

Lyudmila Svanidze:
- A lot of interesting projects were carried out in St. Petersburg Roads on the construction and reconstruction of city roads and federal highways. A project was developed for the reconstruction of several sections of the R-21 "Kola" St. Petersburg - Murmansk highway. We have developed design documentation for the reconstruction of the A-181 "Scandinavia" highway St. Petersburg - Vyborg - the border with the Republic of Finland on the Vyborg bypass section at km 134 - km 160. 18 artificial structures were designed on the section, including bridges over the Saimaa Canal, six transport interchanges, elevated pedestrian crossings, installation of external lighting along the entire length of the designed site. In addition, due to the complex geology, difficulties arose with the installation of drainage and wastewater treatment.
Also among the interesting works is the working documentation for the overhaul of the bridge across the Western Strait of the Saimaa Canal in Vyborg. Then, modern technologies using carbon fiber materials: woven and lamellas were used to repair the racks of intermediate supports and spans.
The reconstruction of the bridge crossing over the Syas River in the village of Syasstroy on the Kola highway, the design of the road part as part of the overpass at the intersection of Pulkovskoye Highway with Danube Prospekt, the design of a light rail line connecting the Kupchino metro station with Pulkovo Airport and many others were also carried out projects.

- What is the 21st Century Roads company working on today?

Evgeny Baskin:
- We are now designing a complex transport interchange in the alignment of Dimitrova Street in the Frunzensky District and Ordzhonikidze Street in the Moskovsky District at the intersection of the Vitebskaya Line railway tracks, Vitebsky Avenue and Belgradskaya Street. The three-level interchange is located directly within the city, where there are a lot of utility networks, underground and surface communications, so there is practically nowhere to put supports.
One of the features of the interchange is the ramp located on the third level, which has a small radius of the curve in plan (R = 60 m) with a length of the central spans of 70 m. This circumstance entails the need to perform, in addition to standard calculations, also an analysis of the torsional performance of the structure. Analysis of the operation of such structures should be carried out using modern software systems.
When developing design documentation, special attention is also paid to the architectural component due to the fact that the designed interchange is located in dense urban areas and has a pronounced high-rise dominant (exit on the third level).

The head of SJSC Servolux, Evgeniy Baskin, and several other company employees were detained. The KGB and the Ministry of Internal Affairs have not yet commented on this information, but the relatives of one of the detainees are already busy looking for a lawyer.

“The relatives of one of the detainees contacted me asking for help in finding a lawyer. They said that Baskin and three or four other people were detained yesterday. Everyone was taken to Minsk. Arrested by the KGB, the cars had Minsk license plates, relatives said,”- Buchel explained.

According to him, the detainee’s relatives also reported that the KGB officers allowed Baskin to call his relatives.

Over the past few days, this is the second major Belarusian businessman who has become interested in law enforcement agencies. On the evening of March 11, information appeared about the arrest of the owner of the Triple group of companies. Yuri Chizh. The KGB also did not comment on it at first, but then confirmed it. According to the press service of this department, Chizh was detained by KGB officers on suspicion of committing a crime under Part 2 of Art. 243 of the Criminal Code (evasion of taxes and fees on an especially large scale). One of the most influential businessmen in Belarus became the owner of the Slutsk breeding plant at the end of last year. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The new poultry complex will be built in two stages. The Slutsk breeding plant is the third poultry enterprise in the country, which, during privatization, is part of the Servolux private holding. In 2002, its founder Evgeny Baskin leased, and four years later received full control over the Mogilev broiler poultry farm (today Servolux-Agro). During 2012-2013, the businessman bought the Smolevichi broiler poultry farm from the state - today's Smolevichi Broiler complex, to which the Slutsk branch of Genetik is subordinate.
